Swap description: Join the Club #4
Welcome to the club! IThis is one of my all-time favourite swaps, so I decided it was time for another round. :)

For this swap, you will invent your own club, and create a custom membership pack for each of your partners. Think about what you like to do, and what you would like to share - this swap is all about getting other people involved in whatever is important to you, and sharing your obsessions! Your club could be...

  • a book club
  • a craft club
  • a zine club
  • a mail art club
  • a promo club for your Etsy store
  • or just a celebration of whatever random subject happens to be your passion (but no 'adult' or religious themes, please!)
  • the main requirement is to be creative!

N.B. You do not have to create an entirely new club, if you already happen to run one; but the membership packs must be handmade, and must still meet the criteria outlined below.

Please make sure your membership pack includes all of the following:

  • A membership card
including the name of your club, the name of the member, & anything else you would like to include (eg member number, date joined etc). Again, the format is up to you.

  • A club newsletter
this should be a minimum of a single A4/letter-size page. The newsletter can take whatever format you like, e.g. a folded sheet, stapled pages, or booklet/zine (or mini-zine)-style. Feel free to add as many extra pages as you like, and include any kind of information that is relevant re. your club theme – news, reviews, projects, puzzles, or whatever else makes sense.

  • Membership guidelines and/or 'mission statement'
(ie what your club is all about): who is eligible/likely to want to join, a statement of any club rules, and any other basic, essential information relevant to your club. The guidelines may be presented as a separate, individual item (your choice of format) or incorporated within either the membership card or newsletter. If incorporated within the newsletter, guidelines should not exceed more than 1/4 of the content space, as the newsletter is intended primarily to impart additional relevant information.

  • A club promo gift
eg button badge, handmade stickers, bookmark, notebook, craft items, or something else relevant to your club.

Swap requirements:

  • 3 partners = 3 full membership packs sent & 3 full membership packs received.
  • Each membership pack should include a membership card, newsletter, guidelines, and a promo gift.
  • Membership card, newsletter & guidelines should be handmade by you. Promo gift may be handmade or store-bought, as appropriate to your membership pack.
  • If you participated in a previous incarnation of this swap, please prepare a different club package than those sent previously.

The obvious bit
This is a high-effort swap, so please be aware of that before you commit to signing up. You must have completed 30 Type 3 swaps to join this swap. Late swaps & low ratings will all be checked before assigning partners. Contact me if you think there might be a problem.

The swap partners at the top is 1 while your description at the bottom has 3 partners.

Fixed!

"this should be a minimum of a double-sided A4/letter-size page."

Just to be sure, this means A4 paper printed on both sides? And we can make it into a non standard mini zine as long as there are printed on both sides.

Your interpretation was correct, @overmoon - BUT I have just edited the swap requirements, in an attempt to simplify the swap. Although previously a standard mini-zine would not have met the requirement, I have made it so that a standard mini-zine is now acceptable.

Is it OK to make your pack about a club that does exist, meets in the 'real' world, and whose criteria obviously includes being able to meet locally (locally to me, not to them), or is that just pointless, knowing they couldn't really join? My thinking was to make it kinda cute and/or "such a shame" that they would prob have to be absent from the next meeting, or sthg.... Not fully thought-through, but wondering nonetheless.

Also, are there examples of membership packs or content online anywhere (e.g., Flickr)?

TangleCrafts 09/27/2011 #

Hmm, well you will be giving your partner an honorary membership pack so as long as you can provide all the necessary requirements (in the swap description), that would be okay - and so long as it was made clear that although they couldn't attend the actual meet-ups, their special membership was still valid. :)

2nd question - do you mean examples from the previous round of the swap? I've moved house since then, so I'm afraid the things I received are somewhere in the no-man's-land of my un-unpacked stuff. Perhaps any previous participants have links they can post here?
