Description:

I've been thinking about this since I received earlier this year a wonderful 16-page reading log zine for 2006 created by perezeeb.

This swap is for people who love to read and would like to both keep track of what they've read and share their lists with two other readers and/or bibliophiles.

You'll be sending your partners a reading log that contains your thoughts on all the books you read in January, February and March. The log can be in any paper format.

It doesn't matter what you read: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, Manga, zines, audio books, e-books, children's, etc. You just need to jot down the title, the author and give a minimum of a one paragraph description about the book and your thoughts. You can feel free to include things like favorite quotes, the author's Web site, etc. Whatever you want to say about the book.

The plan is to post this quarterly, so there will be four reading log swaps posted in 2008: one each in January, April, July and October. At the end of the year, you'll have a file that has all of your reading recorded and the full year could be created into a zine or be part of a holiday letter to friends. :) A quarterly system will allow people to join in during the year while making it less likely that people will forget about or flake on a year-long commitment.

This first swap will be for books read in January, February and March 2008. If you'd also like to include notable books that you read in 2007, feel free.

I recommend keeping a computer file for your log so it will be easy for your partners to read and so you won't lose it, but your log can be created in ANY format you like. As simple as a piece of notebook paper, a mini-journal, a lettter, a zine, a quarter-fold newsletter, etc. The format is up to you.

The details:

a) international (sent via the post, NOT e-mailed)

b) two partners

c) minimum requirements: one book each month; one paragraph about the book. Author, title.

Voracious readers, like your host, read more than a single book a month. :) And since you're considering this swap, you probably read more than one as well! So there's no maximum. If you read it in January list it under that month in your log, and so on.

The fine print:

Newbies welcome. Rated players need a 4.6 or higher. All participants must have a completed profile. I ban after the swap closes. As both a swap participant and coordinator, I like people to have positive swap experiences, so please no forum drama.

There's no need to wait for partners to be assigned. Get reading!

If this is helpful for anyone else, I keep track of the books I've read on Library Thing (http://www.librarything.com/). I'm looking forward to sharing my list with my partner.

TíaBel 12/27/2007 #

Me, too! And getting other lists, of course. Fab idea, Artistic.

I have my list on goodreads, but I haven't done any reviews, yet. This swap gives me the incentive to start.

TíaBel 12/27/2007 #

P.S. Don't worry, I won't be sending you the whole list, just the best stuff.

Chamsie 12/27/2007 #

Is it possible to send it ou on cd? If the list gets too long...

Artistic 12/27/2007 #

Rapture and TiaBel: Thanks for the site recommendations.

Chamsie: You'll have two partners and not everyone has CD players. So any paper format is the preference.

All: Welcome and thanks for joining!

I had a clarification question, so I'll post that here in case anyone else is wondering:

For this swap you'll be sending your partners a reading log that contains your thoughts on all the books you read in January, February and March. The log can be in any paper format.

Artistic,

This swap fits perfectly into my resolution. I'm in, and thanks again for such a great package!

Oh what a fun swap! I always keep track of my list on my LJ profile but to be able to send it out to people is so fun!

This is neat. I've kept a name and author list of everything I've read since I graduated from college and I always intend to make notes but usually don't. Now I will for at least three months - it's a great discipline. Thanks for making it a swap, it will be interesting to see what others are reading and thinking about it.

Oh this is a perfect swap. I read up to 15 books a month so I'm quite certain I can make a little nice log. Beware, my partners, beware! ;)

MaidMirawyn 01/14/2008 #

I so need this motivation to keep better track of my reading! Yay!

Hi all:

Just a quick note to remind you to keep your reading logs updated. We're closing our second month of reading. I hope you've been enjoying the books you have been choosing.

In the event you need a little boost, please check out this swap that I'm hosting.

I've got about fifteen entries, and I'm going to make up the books this weekend! I can't wait...I think, though, I can finish one more book before then! :)

cerwinrhiannon 03/25/2008 #

I would like to, but I honestly can't remember all of the books I've read so far this year. I will join the next round.

MaidMirawyn 04/ 1/2008 #

Tiabel and spoonergregory, I stuck yours in the mail yesterday!

Artistic 04/ 1/2008 #

Hi all: On Saturday, I took a look to see how many people had sent. The numbers didn't look any better yesterday, March 31, our initial mail-by date. So I moved forward the mail-by date a few days to this Saturday, April 5. I hope this helps those who are running behind and starting to panic.
