Description:

Jan. Dotee Doll – Theme Creativity

This swap is for a Dotee Doll with an art - create theme. The theme can be anything that represents creativity for you. Think about a charm or button that spells out the word art or create. Use your imagination in colors, shapes or design. Use wild fun fabric or fabric printed with art or craft supplies. No limit to the possibilities.

You will be making 1 doll for each of 2 partners.

As a second part write a note or tag letting your partner know a bit about your creative process in making their doll.

I am making this international. The dolls are small and lightweight. They fit into small bubble envies and ship overseas with relative ease to the pocketbook.

If you don’t know much about Dotee Dolls I’ve included some links that should help.

To see some photos of finished Dotees check out these flickr photos

It is not necessary to wait for the swap to close in order to work on your dolls since there is no specific expectation to match your partners profile. Choose some materials that appeal to you (and are keeping with the theme) and go with it!

Please feel free to change the shape or style of your doll according to your own expression, but make sure it has an attached face, tail and loop hanger. Let’s keep the size somewhat uniform and do them in the 3-6 inch range (finished size).

The Dotee in the photo is one that I made. I don’t like embellishing on a stuffed front surface so I embellish through the two layers of fabric then add a felt backing which I stuff and hand sew into place.

Now for the rest of it – Although I’m very new to hosting I have been swapping here for more than a year. I’m familiar with the way things work. What I’ve discovered is that determining a swappers risk isn’t a simple number.

I’ll be checking ratings, swap history and swap comments when deciding which swappers will be allowed to participate. If you aren’t a well established swap-bot swapper you’ll need a filled out profile AND you’ll need to provide me with links to other pertinent information that would help determine that you are a reliable swapper. i.e. other swap sites where you have participated, photo streams that show a history of your work, recommendations from swap-bot members in good standing.

If you have questions or concerns please message or email.

Happy swapping!!!

Betsy AKA Hag53

Please Note:

I am not encouraging not sending in the least, and should that happen the non sender will not be allowed in my swaps until they make good and satisfy me that it won't likely happen again, however I do want to know if you do not receive your dolls. Not only will I angel but I've had offers from other Dotee fans to angel should there be a problem.

Betsy, I'm glad you started another Dotee swap. Can't get enough of those.

Hag53 12/31/2007 #

LOL! Neither can I! I plan to do a monthy themed one for as long as people continue to sign up. They are so much fun and I find myself getting better and better with practice. I actually figured out how to do some beaded hair today - finally! Thanks for joining!

jessica 12/31/2007 #

I just discovered that I can make these. And because I swore no more swaps until after my son turns 6.. I'm signing up. damn my inability to say no.

alleycat 12/31/2007 #

I'm glad that you are planing more of these, I've been dying to try my hand at these, but this is just a bad month for me time wise, I hope to get into the next one!

Hag53 12/31/2007 #

LOL! Jessica! I do that sometimes too. I've seen you around flickr with a different name! Good stuff over there. Glad you'll be fitting this swap in!

littlewanda 01/ 1/2008 #

No! I'm not supposed to be doing more than 6 swaps a month....I must say no....I must say no...I must say yes....

HeideC 01/ 1/2008 #

My birthday is in January so this will be my present! I can't wait.

piggybaby 01/ 1/2008 #

I've seen other dotee doll swaps in the past and have been curious about trying to make one myself....but, what does everyone do with the dotee dolls that they receive? Are you supposed to hang them somewhere? They're just so cute but I wouldn't know what to do with them... Thanks! :)

Denise 01/ 1/2008 #

You have to say yes Littlewanda, how can you not??? :-) I've been hanging my dolls off my shelves but I just love how Robin hung hers on a tree.

Hag53 01/ 1/2008 #

Well, littlewanda, I'm trying really hard to make really wise choices for swaps beginning awhile ago! It's mostly working out for me, but then... well... you know what happens, something comes along that you just can't resist and these little dotees are hard to pass up. I'm very glad you are here!

Hag53 01/ 1/2008 #

HeideC - I'm so glad to see you here and Happy - Happy - Birthday to you in Jan! What better way to help celebrate than to send out and receive dotees!?!?

Hag53 01/ 1/2008 #

piggyback - denise: So far I'm hanging mine off shelves and hooks, but I did see Robin's little tree and that is a fantastic idea. I'll be looking for something similiar until I find just the right thing. I bought some really great spring flower kinds of fat quarters recently. I can't wait to work some of those up. Maybe hang some really pretty spring ones on a tree????

Kelli 01/ 1/2008 #

I'm in! I hope poor Heide doesn't get me as a partner again or her whole Dotee collection will be my dolls! (LOL)

katrina 01/ 4/2008 #

I've starting mine already! One I've made using the leftover fabric from my brides maids dresses. I got married 8 yrs ago and my mum made the dress and gave me the scraps to do with as I feel fit.. happy days. Btw do we have to use any particular type of fabric or what ever happens to be in the scrap bag - and big enough!

Hag53 01/ 4/2008 #

Any fabric is allowed!!!

MsCraftALot 01/ 4/2008 #

Question 3-6 inch range is that include the tail and hoop?

Hag53 01/ 5/2008 #

Yes, I think most of us would prefer them to be no larger than 6 including the tail and hoop, although I don't think the sky will fall if it comes out a little bigger. Any other opinions on this for future swaps will be appriciated.

MsCraftALot 01/ 6/2008 #

God... I was so bored the last two days, so I've finished my dotee dolls. I've had so much fun making them and I hope there are more of dotee swaps in future!

Hag53 01/12/2008 #

Wow, I'm seeing and signing up for more and more Dotee themed swaps everyday!!! It's so exciting!

fivecats1 01/13/2008 #

I just made mine, too!!! And, these are the very first Dotees I have ever made, so please comment!! They are at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22763252@N03/2189285963/in/set-72157603702086018/

I'm in, I love these little dolls.

twobluecrows 01/14/2008 #

Aargh! I wasn't going to sign up to more swaps either, but I want to make and swap Dotee Dolls! I have a bunch of small pieces of fabulous fabric just screaming to become a doll or ten! I'm in! Cyn

Hag53 01/15/2008 #

I so love them too! Welcome everyone! LOL Cyn, I hate it when I just have to sign up!!!

RobinT 01/17/2008 #

I love the Dotee addiction.... it's fat free and good for you, too! Can't say it's sugar free cause the Dotee's are just so sweet!

pootle 01/19/2008 #

Oops - clicked the wrong one - haven't sent yet!

Hag53 01/23/2008 #

It seems we have a little glitch in the listing for this swap. Something has changed the sign-up date to todays Jan 23rd. This is not correct. This swap has already closed. Partners have been assigned and people have already been sending. Everything is as it should be with partners and all the sent dates are showing up as accurate. Please ignore the signup date and proceed sending and receiving your Jan. dotees!!!

twobluecrows 02/ 1/2008 #

Mine are in the mail finally! I sent them out yesterday (1/31) but forgot to click "I sent".

Cyn
