BOM Half Square Triangles #1

February 11, 2012 thru March 18, 2012

Half Square Triangle = 4 1/2” finished block with one side dark print, one side light print

2 partners each to receive 15 finished 4 1/2” HST’s = total 30 HST’s made and sent

Start with two 5” print fabric charms (charms = a square cut of 100% cotton fabric, in this case 5”), one light print and one dark print. Place the two charms right sides together. Using your ruler and a pencil, draw a straight line on the back of the light print from the upper left hand corner down to lower right hand corner. Stitch a scant ¼” seam either side of the pencil line. Cut on the pencil line. Press gently so as not to stretch the block. Trim the dog ears, and then trim the block to 4 1/2 inches using the center seam line as your base. Always trim and press for success.

The goal is to get as many different HST’s as possible so please try to use a print only once unless you match it to a different print the second time. No solid fabrics.

We’ve found that the higher the contrast between the dark side and the light side, the better the HST’s work in any project.

Any questions or concerns are welcome, please PM me.

Look out, these blocks can be addictive!

I'm not sure if I will sign up as I like the block in the picture: one solid light color with different dark triangles. And the swap is to use all kinds of lights and darks..........I will make my mind up in a couple of days :-)

I attempted to change the picture but wasn't able to.

ok, now the picture is changed to show one light and one darker print.

Actually it's not changed on my computer. I like the scrappy look but not everyone does. I once had a spell of making a series of crib sized quilts with half square triangles with a lot of different lay outs, each had some predominant color but was very scrappy within that color. I think those of us who loved plane geometry in school can get hooked on simple designs like this.
