Description:

I see a lot of 'scavenger hunt' swaps on swapbot that are usually just something like 'find a sticker sheet with cute bears on it.' Fair enough, but for this swap we are doing a REAL scavenger hunt!

When the deadline comes, I will assign partners and post a list of 30 'items' to find. And this is the Butterfly Anarchists group, so do not be fooled into thinking the items are going to be a)normal b)expected c)straightforward.

Your Mission: Take a picture of each item you find/make/complete. When you get all of them or give up or the deadline comes, email your partners the pictures of your successfully completed items. Don't worry if you don't get everything, and don't be afraid to 'creatively interpret' the tasks.

Send me the email/pictures too (seastar.tree@gmail.com) and I'll select a winner who will get a prize!

The Items:

  1. Something edible every colour of the rainbow
  2. Three objects that rhyme with each other
  3. Someone wearing pants with more than 4 colours on them
  4. A note you left for a stranger
  5. Something that could be used for three different holidays
  6. Something that could be described with three adjectives that start with the same letter
  7. something sad that you see every day
  8. something outside that makes you smile
  9. something useful being thrown out
  10. a sticker in an unusual place
  11. a heart drawn on a chalkboard
  12. your name written somewhere outside in natural materials only
  13. something awesome a stranger did/is doing in public
  14. a pun made of objects
  15. a bucket list inside a bucket
  16. Something yellow whose name starts with y
  17. bubbles being blown in a public place
  18. something rainbow and useful
  19. something secret
  20. an anachronism (object misplaced in time)
  21. something broken but beautiful
  22. a picture drawn by someone you’ve never met
  23. a collection of something unusual
  24. three holographic things
  25. a sculpture of a bird made of office supplies
  26. a picture of something made out of itself, excluding art supplies (eg a tree made of tiny twigs)
  27. a picture of you doing a trick most people can’t
  28. someone hugging a statue
  29. a postal worker holding some mail art you’ve made
  30. something strange that should have been on this list

RATING: Completing all the items on the list is NOT required to get a five on this swap. As a guideline I will say try to get at least ten, and if you can't, supplement your pictures by writing a bit about finding things/not finding them. I don't anticipate us having problems, but if you feel your partner didn't make an effort please contact them or me before rating a 3.

Most important rule: have fun! Let the scavenging commence...

I love the idea and the flexibility of the swap. If I can get my camera working I will totally join. Stupid camera.

I like the idea of this... can always use my phone (camera on it)...goes everywhere with me and upload straight to flickr too!

I'm so excited about this! I love the idea of a scavenger hunt but the ones on swap-bot are usually so lame....

It's good to know it's just an email swap, so won't cost much, but I also hope one day someone hosts a really imaginative "finding real things and mailing them to your partner" type hunt?

i'm going to have to drop this one, my back isn't better enough for me to leave the house so i know i'd have trouble with some of it. =(

I have a quick question - would it be considered 'cheating' if we already have a photograph we took some time in the past, that would fit one of the categories?

Halogen 03/ 2/2012 #

I think that would be fine. I'd say as long as it's a picture you took yourself it's ok.

Some of these list items are pure poetry... "something made out of itself" "something sad you see every day" Love the list.
