Description:

Welcome to my first NFS monthly "quilt as you go" striped block.

Each month you will use the "quilt as you go" method to make your partner 1 striped quilt block ~ 12.5" X 12.5" and the only two requirement is you must use between 6 & 10 different fabrics. Also NO batting. You will use some plain or leftover cotton fabric you have hanging around.

Stripes can go horizontal, vertical or on an angle.

When you have enough squares to make a quilt, you will add your own batting and whatever you pick for a backing.

Here is an awesome tutorial (I love Jenny)!

I am SO excited about this swap!!

Is this going to be a monthly one? I would love to play but feb promises to be crazy (read the top of my profile if curious as to why).

I know why, mama's having a baby ~ FC!! You do which ever months you can. You are only signing up for one month at a time!

I know the video includes batting and the reason why I have excluded it is because we would end up with different thickness. I also want each of you to pick the back for yourself. I have done many blocks with just the two, it so much fun! Hope you join in.

I'm sorry to see it's USA only :-(

Mugsie 01/24/2013 #

I'm sorry ~ can you do an International one?

MamaMay 01/24/2013 #

Humming, could we use a flannel as batting. I don't know many flannels that are different thicknesses and hence we could use a batting and get an even thickness....

Mugsie 01/24/2013 #

But everyone would have to have it, some people might not sign up if they don't have.

True.... Never mind....

The whole idea is with a piece of fabric it is so easy to sew on stripes using the sew as you go method. It's actually really fun and so super easy. You are just doing a block, the extra fabric is so you can sew onto it. This swap is not for the three layer block. You will add batting and a back after you have enough.

ok, so no binding but square it up?

Mugsie 02/ 4/2013 #

Yes, did you see the video??

The only problem with this is that it's not really "quilt" as you go unless you include the batting. The blocks are going to be like heartstrings, or paper-piecing, when you finally add your batting and backing, there won't be any quilting, just whatever you have to do the whole thing with. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Your right so next month it will be SEW AS YOU GO ~ STRING BLOCKS!
