Crafty Challenge April 08 - International

Your mission: to use only items you currently have on hand to create an interesting craft project to share with your partner, also incorporating some sort of recycling/re-purposing/reuse of materials!

You're not going to purchase anything to finish this project; you must use what you have - honor system!

All crafts welcome, but plan to spend at least an hour or two creating.

You will also need to take a moment or three to share what you did in writing/typing. Has that yarn/fabric/etc. been in your stash forever? What did you use that was recycled? Where did it come from? How long has it been there? Is there anything you would have done differently had you been able to buy something for this swap? Send at least a little bit of a letter sharing your experience.

Bonus Points* for the following categories:

  • recycled packaging for mailing

  • dual-use items; it looks cool and is functional too!

  • taking a moment to check out your partners profile and sending something they will think is awesome

  • making your letter on recycled paper

Sign-ups will cease one week from swap was created, on April 30th. Swappers will have two weeks from the end of the sign-up period to send their swaps by May 14th. If a swapper is unable to mail by this date, s/he is responsible for contacting their partner to explain the delay.

Challenge April 08 is open to all swappers regardless of geographical location; meaning international swapping!

Requirements:

  • must be a member of the Crafty Recycling Group on Swap-bot

  • must not have any recent no-sends without communication

  • all swappers regardless of rating are invited, but those with less than a 5 rating will be scrutinized. Swap hostess may ban an swapper she seems as a potential problem. Don't let it be you! Consider taking a moment to be sure any non-5 ratings have an appropriate response.

  • must have successfully completed a real-mail (the kind that utilizes the postal service) swap prior to the end of the sign-up period, including receiving a rating

  • inappropriate swap member banning will take place on the last day of sign-ups.

Swap hostess is not responsible for the sharing/forcing/requesting of hearts in response to a swap received. Hearts are based on personal preference, which varies by swapper. I love hearts too, but a meaningful comment as a swap response is more important than a 5+ with the word 'thanks'. Share what you though of the package!

Ratings Guidelines:

  • 5 - I received something made by my partner

  • 3 - I received something made by my partner, but it was late with no communication/did not meet swap requirements.

  • 1 - I received nothing from my partner, and they have had no communication with me regarding this swap.

Q&A:

Can I start on my project now, before partners are assigned?

Sure! While its more fun to tailor what you send, its not part of the requirements for this swap.

I don't want to risk sending internationally, help!

Sorry, but this swap is not for you then - feel free to request a US/North America/country specific version. If enough people are interested, I can start one related to the region in which I live. Are you in Europe? You can make your own! Please give proper credit if you copy/paste. No one likes to see a swap copied without a reference.

I don't want to risk being partnered with a certain swapper, ask them to leave! I don't like them.

If you have genuine sending concerns over another member potentially not sending that is not reflected in their rating, please PM the swap hostess, being sure to mention the swap in the Subject line. If you are not comfortable with a swapper being involved due to personal, and not sending history reasons, please do not join. Swapping is supposed to be fun, and if you drag in drama, I will be sad. No sad for me! Play nice!

I wanna reuse this thing that may rot/smell funky/is dirty/unclean, is that okay?

Don't ask me this, seriously, I will be aggrivated. I will respond nicely, but You Know Better, I know you do! If in doubt, use something else. Reusing food containers especially contains an expectation of cleanliness. If you don't have access to a dishwasher, near boiling water and baking soda will get it clean too. Send something you would love to receive!

Ohhh what about pet hair to stuff a plush?

Check out your partner's profile for allergies, because that would not be nice to send to me. I'd recommend being safe and save that for a private/one-on-one where you know the recipient would think it was the most awesome thing ever. Not that I don't think that is pretty cool, but some people have severe allergies to such things. Please respect your partner's requests regarding allergies. They don't have it in their profile to be a pain in the rear.

Did people really ask the above questions?

No, but I like to be thorough and answer any possibly questions I can think of, so you don't have to!

Any questions? Ask away, in the comments below, or through PM! 'P' is for private for a reason, and I do not have any intentions of sharing private correspondence unless it breaks the Terms of this Site, and then only with the site creators.

*Bonus Points are personal goals and ideas, and are not required nor tabulated. Bonus Points accrued are non-transferable; creator is responsible for their own Bonus Points. If you hang out with me long enough, you'll know that I like to type Bonus Points.

Here we go, partners assigned! A little smaller of a response than I expected, but hey that's better for my first nearly-public swap to host! If you have any issues please take time to contact those involved, you would appreciate the same! Happy swapping!
