Description:

Sometimes I get swaps from places I've never heard of, or sometimes from cities I wish I could visit. Invariably, I wonder what it would be like to wander around these places and see them for myself. I also find myself wishing that most swaps went beyond postcards-- I keep sending out postcards of monuments and famous artworks, but most people in my northside neighborhood don't go downtown unless it's for work! I want to find out what it's really like to live somewhere, and tell people what it's really like to live here.

Have you ever felt the same? Then this swap might be for you!

For this swap, you will write a minimum of 3 A5 pages-- that's about a page and a half of notebook paper, or 3/4 of a page typed-- about what it's like to live in your small town, suburb, neighborhood, etc. This can include popular hangouts, what attractions there are (A park? A community center? An amazing restaurant), if it's noisy or quiet, if there's a lot of crime or not a lot of crime, etc.

You will then take a minimum of 3 photos of different things you find interesting or that are meaningful to you in your neighborhood and have them printed on standard professional 4x6 photo paper, with a short explanation of each (one sentence is fine, or you can even refer to the letter-- just make sure your partners know what it is).

You will have 2 partners, and 3 weeks to go adventuring.

In short, that's: - one letter - 3 photos - 2 partners - 3 weeks

I will angel, but no unresolved 3's in the past 6 months and no 1's in the past year. Newbies welcome with well-filled out profile as I've had good luck on my other swaps.

Happy swapping and take care! :)

Is that neighborhood or town?

benevolentghost 08/ 4/2013 #

@ladydy5 I figure it depends on the size of where you live-- in Chicago, for example, we have "community areas" that are referred to as neighborhoods. Where I grew up, though, the whole suburb was pretty much my neighborhood. Really, it's up to your discretion!

Ohhh, but the title was chosen in reference to small towns, because those are the places I'm often most curious about. Silly me. I'll edit the swap to reflect my short-sightedness. Thank you for calling it to my attention!

Ok I'm a newbie and I joined this- sounds like fun! but I have a question. When it says you will have 2 partners, does that mean I will make the same swap twice, but for 2 different people and then send one to each of them?

benevolentghost 08/ 7/2013 #

@jacquierae -- Thanks for joining! Sending them both the same swap is totally fine! When I have two+ partners, I generally make them slightly different, but it varies from person to person.

And thank you to @feverfawn for watching over my swaps like some kind of swap-fairy :P

@benevolentghost I absolutely love this swap! I'm going to pull out of it because I'm needing some room in my schedule for some other projects, but I'd love to do it with you sometime in the future. :)

@anandatashie aw, it's a shame you couldn't do this one, but the feeling is mutual :)
