Watercolour paper ATC blanks
Soft pencil
Waterproof fine liner
Watercolour or acrylic paints or inks
Method:
Without taking your pencil off draw an image of a cat, elephant or vase of flowers. You could do a dog, a kangaroo or a sailing boat- whatever you want, but DON"T take your pencil off.
DON'T USE AN ERASER!
Then using the waterproof fine liner, trace over your pencil drawing.
Then colour using paints or inks but use don't use usual colours for your images. Think outside the square. You could look up FAUVISM for artists that painted like that.

Is it ok that the line crosses over itself as long it doesn't leave the page? Or is the idea to keep the image simple (and harder to do) by not crossing over the line?

you can cross over lines, just don't take your pencil off.
