Description:

This swap is limited to members of this group only. It is designed to give us some "info", "family story", "local news" and/or "silly, happy, friendly words" from each other in the form of a "Round Robin" letter (sort of a chain letter without the bad reputation).

The swap is being created to initiate the travels of an envelope around our group which will contain short letters from members to all the other members.

As your hostess CADLady (me!) will initiate the letter/envelope as soon as partners have been assigned.

If you sign up, you must WAIT FOR THE ARRIVAL OF THE ENVELOPE before you add yours to it and send it on to your partner. (I will send everyone a note once partners are assigned with the "routing" so you'll have an idea when to anticipate getting the Round Robin.)

If you missed it, my long decription of how this swap will work appeared first in our forum (Swap Ideas), but here's basically how it works:

(1) You will receive an envelope (marked "Round Robin" on the outside) from one of the members containing short letters from all the previous recipients.
(2) After reading everyone else's news, you will compose a short letter of your own (Round 1's Theme is "What I Believe" -- tell us a little about your path. (Please no tracts. Just write from your heart.) Add your letter to the "Round Robin" envelope and send it onward to your partner.
(3) You should receive the "Round Robin" only a once in the next 3-6 months. If it runs quickly, you MIGHT get it twice before New Year's!! You get to have lots of fun reading the "old news" and adding your update...but ONLY FOR A QUICK VISIT. (4) You will always send to the same partner and everyone will eventually get to read everyone else's letter (IF everyone only keeps it a day or two).

The "Send By" date on this swap will be extended to way out there on the calendar and is for admin reasons only. (Long enough so that everyone will have a chance to get it/send it.)

YOU should (A) Send the envelope within 1-2 days of getting it. (Have I said this enough?) (B) RATE YOUR PARTNER as soon as you send the envelope onward. Then everyone can "see" who has gotten the envelope by looking at the list of send dates. (Rating = Tracking. Please rate.) (C) Remember to send it onward QUICKLY. (Guess it bears saying again.) The "Send By" date will be fictional for this swap. Instead SEND SOONEST, WITHOUT DELAY, PRONTO, well, you get the idea. :)

Eventually you will find inside the envelope a letter that YOU WROTE. This will be after the "Round Robin" has made a full circle trip. At that point REMOVE YOUR ORIGINAL LETTER and add a NEW LETTER and keep the "Round Robin" traveling.

When "I" get the envelope back the first time, I will edit the Send By date to terminate the swap. This will allow anyone who joined us since the sign-up date to join us again & those who wish to drop a chance to do so.

You are on your honor to: (1) Never remove anyone else's letter. (2) Always add a letter of your own (include a bit about the theme, the minutiae of your day, what's upcoming in your world, what projects you are working on, how you hate your job, whatever you want to share with 2 dozen friends!). (3) Mail the envelope WITHIN 2 DAYS of receiving it.

Assuming all of us sign up for this, there will be 24-25 stops for this envelope. Don't be greedy or keep the Robin with you too long. 25 x 3 days = 72 days (about 2.5 months) to make a complete circle and that is WITHOUT THE POSTAL DELAYS.

The only reasons I will ban someone from this swap are the obvious: a recent plummet in ratings OR the person has left the group.

However, I WILL WATCH watch the progress of our "Round Robin" envelope via the list of participants (Please remember to record that you have sent the RR onward!). I will then be able to see who last sent the envelope and persistently "nudge" anyone who is holding up the "Round Robin" on its travels. I doubt THAT will be an issue with OUR group. ;)

Someone asks me if Everyone sends a letter by the send date. Yes, but NOT UNTIL you get the "packet of letters" itself. That way everyone eventually gets to read everyone's letter.

Works like this:

I start with my letter, sending it to Person B. Person B ADDS their letter to mine, sending BOTH to Person C. Person C adds their letter to the 2 in the envelope when it arrives and sends the envelope onward to Person D.

By the time Person W gets it there should be a PACKET of 23 letters to which s/he will add theirs. The WHOLE PACKET makes the rounds everytime. Only on the 1st round will this be a skinny envelope. Eventually it’s a nice, thick, stack of sheets.

When the whole set returns to ME, I then pull out ONLY my own letter and send the packet onward to my partner.

I'm thinking there must be 2 round trips before I halt it, let (new) others join in, and start up RR #2.

This works. My family has been doing it for years.

I hope to be able to do the swap. I'm behind on swaps, so I won't sign up for anymore until they are all done and packaged up. Trying to get caught up before this one starts! If not, I'll jump in at round 2.

Thanks to all of you who have signed up. Watch for a PM (sent to each participant) message soon with the "order of the round" so you'll know about when to expect the envelope from your partner!

UPDATE: RR#1 seems to have gotten hung-up somewhere between Aurora and mystical. I haven't been able to figure out what happened. [In fairness to both swappers, there was a "change of address" involved.]

I'm going to wait until Nov 1st and, if it hasn't showed up by then, I'll have to cancel RR#2. If we can't go around just once successfully, it makes another round look sort of unlikely. CARANAM, I'm not ruling out another similar swap, but SO MANY LETTERS and the only one I got to see was my own. :( KEEPING MY FINGERS (and toes) CROSSED that RR#1 will turn up soon!
