Description:

I hosted a USA version of a "Notebook/Journaling "PenPal" Swap last year, I thought I would host another this year.

This is basically a co-op Notebook/Journal. You’ll have one Journal “Pen-pal” so to speak. You can make a really great friend, even if you don’t have a lot in common. So that being said, here are the dreadful rules (simple but must have).

1) Number one rule, you have to be willing to reply to your sender. There is never a time limit of when you send yours back. I’d hope after you receive your journal/notebook for the first time that you’d at least reply back within a couple of weeks, just to get the book moving back and forth. After that, between the two of you, you can figure out time frames. It is really nice to get the mailbox and find this book in there when it arrives simply out of the blue.

2) Measurements:The book should measure no smaller than a 7 x 5 and no larger than 9 -1/2 x 6-1/2. Due to postage it's USA only. The cover can be altered somehow or not, it's not a requirement. Nothing fancy, heavy or bulky, remember this is going to be passed back and forth hopefully for years. You can put a pocket in the back, so you and your pal can swap goodies back and forth, you can share supplies, stickers, notes, and pictures or what ever your interest is. This is not a requirement, but to get to know someone it’s really nice to get an extra something once in a while.

3) The book can be either spiral or book binded, the type of notebook/journal will be senders choice, just remember that it needs to be sturdy enough to withstand travel.

4) The first page of your Notebook/Journal should definitely be an introduction of yourself. Be creative if you’d like.

Simple as that!

You will only make ONE PenPal Journal. When Partners are assigned you will have ONE partner to send/mail to. You will mail to your partner, then someone else will mail to you. The system does not assign in pairs (most of the time). So you essentially have two penpals in the end, but only make ONE journal, the one you are sending.

Sorry NO Newbies or anyone who has any ones or threes within the past three months,Must have at least a 4.8 If you do join up and don't meet the requirments, you will be banned!!

Please don't flake!! This is a pretty involved project and nobody likes a Flaker!

Do we rate when we get the journal the first time? This sounds like a lot of fun.

tamtamlee 11/ 2/2013 #

Yes when you receive your journal with a letter in it you will rate your patner

Can the Journal be a Smash Book

tamtamlee 11/ 3/2013 #

@Mona I have no idea what a smash book is. The journal is senders choice, If it meets the size requirement I don't see why not.

Aww I was excited to read this post but then I seen NO newbies. =(

I am about to complete my 17th swap. Am I eligible to join? Also, I am assuming the journal needs to be something along the line of a composition book instead of a hard bound journal. Is that correct? Thanks.

PurpleButterfly 11/10/2013 #

This can be a composition notebook right?

tamtamlee 11/11/2013 #

Yes it can be a composition book. It can be any type of journal / notebook {it is senders choice} as long as it meets the size requirements. @MrsSunshine you may join.

What is the definition of "newbie"? I have completed 14 swaps and have a 5.0 rating. Also, a SMASH book is a spiral-bound book with binding covering the spirals. They can be homemade but they have many versions for sale at Archiver;s Target, Michael's, as well as online and on eBay and many other craft stores. I think a SMASH book is a great idea for this project. There are several different kinds of SMASH books. The color of the binding constitutes a different kind. Each color basically just has differently designed pages in it and is a different style. For example, the yellow one is "International" and has designed paper that reflects the different cultures and countries of the world. Red is "doodle" and most of the pages has some sort of little doodles on them, etc. There are about 15 different colors, or styles. To sum it up it is basically a junk journal and each book comes with a pen that has a glue stick on the end of it so you can "SMASH" things in quickly. ANyone who wants to see what they look like can Google "SMASH book" and see the myriad of pics, YouTube videos, websites, etc. Hope that helps!

Also, how much would it be to mail something like this?

The thing about SMASH books is that they can be messy, you don't have to go in order from front to back which is nice and I think if I do this swap and use a SMASH book I may number the pages that way if you or your partner don't necessarily want to be restricted to doing the pages in order you could maybe write a note saying "I added to pages ___ and ____" or something. Or let your partner find it themselves! lol

Littleheartsx3 11/15/2013 #

The thing about SMASH books is that there are no rules. They can be messy, you don't have to go in order from front to back so if I use one I may number the pages so my partner and I can tell each other "I added to page ___ and ___" or something---or keep it mysterious and let them discover what you add themselves!

Littleheartsx3 11/15/2013 #

Ok seriously----I have typed a paragraph comment twice and it keeps deleting it and putting a stupid #...what's the deal????

OK i see all comments have the #...nvm....Still, I had to type it 4 times!! OK rant over...

Littleheartsx3 11/15/2013 #

The K & Co. site says Book size is 7.75" wide x 10.25" . Is this OK?

tamtamlee 11/15/2013 #

Ya that's fine

Roseg 11/16/2013 #

Smash books are really nice. I own a few. My concern is the amount it will cost to send the smash book back and forth. Smash books are fairly heavy. They are hard cover front and back.

tamtamlee 11/16/2013 #

YOU DON'T REALLY WANT TO SEND ANYTHING THAT COAST ALOT ~ YOU WANT TO TRY AND KEEP THE POSTAGE DOWN.

Littleheartsx3 11/16/2013 #

Was thinking about that yesterday. I may give in and do something like a composition book like what was already mentioned

alexisloveskawaii516 11/16/2013 #

so do u like decorate the notebook/journal n then write about your self on the first page and then you send it then they will reply to you and you just keep going back and foruth???

tamtamlee 11/17/2013 #

@alexisloveskawaii516 you can decorate or not that is all up to you. That is not a requirement! Yes, write about yourself and send it off to your partner and she will reply. This is just like writing letters to a friend but both letters will be in the journal that will go back and forth. Once the journal is filled youns may want to start another one!
