Description:

Ok, so we all know what a scavenger hunt is and how much fun they are so i thought why not do one that is a little bit tricky and has a size limit on it.

Ok, so you have to find something representing the 10 below items BUT they MUST fit into just an envelope! This cannot be a parcel swap. The envelope can be no larger than a C5 (165mm x 230mm (6x9) envelope (plain envelope, not bubble wrap)! Be creative because you will need to think of something within in each category that fits into the correct size without making it fatter than a letter. (One item per category, 10 in total)

This is an international swap. Newbies are welcome.

Here are the 10 categories:
- Something to stick
- Something from your country
- Something blue or purple
- Something yellow, green or orange
- Something tasty
- Something made of paper
- Something fun
- something pretty
- something handmade or craft related (just in case there isn't something you can make)
- Something you collect

It would be really interesting to also hear why you chose each thing! But this is not nescessary for the swap. If you have any questions PM me or comment below. Happy swapping!

what is the american equivalant of the size of envelope, thanks.

manxkity 05/26/2008 #

6x9 - had to look it up too :-)

smokeandmirrors 05/27/2008 #

Thanks for posting the American equivalent envelope manxkity! Sorry that i didn't post that earlier. I will add that into the swap info.

smokeandmirrors 05/31/2008 #

So happy with the response to this swap! It is going to be so much fun!

craftypetal 06/ 1/2008 #

I saw this swap and thought - thats just what I've been looking for. Just a fun little way to do something nice accross the country/globe! Can't wait!

smokeandmirrors 06/ 1/2008 #

26 people! This should be fun! If this goes well i might have to run this swap again!

tuesday 06/ 9/2008 #

Love this idea and can't wait to get started. This will be my first international swap. Ideas are swirling in my brain. HAHA

smokeandmirrors 06/ 9/2008 #

Wow, i hadn't checked the swap in a few days and now there is 45 people! Number 9 swap. I am looking forward to this.

smokeandmirrors 06/11/2008 #

Only 8 days left for sign up!

kensfoxywife 06/13/2008 #

what does "something to stick" mean?

Artistic 06/13/2008 #

kensfoxywife: sounds to me like that's something fun to interpret for the swap. :)

smokeandmirrors 06/14/2008 #

Yep, that's right Artistic, completely open to interpretation! You could go for the obvious of stickers or dream up something different that you can 'stick'. As long as you can explain to your swap partner why you picked it for that category it is ok!

5 days to go! So happy at the amount of swappers who have joined, currently number 4 on the swap charts!

OneLitFirefly 06/14/2008 #

Newbie here.. What did you mean by "this cannot be a parcel swap"? I mean.. what IS a parcel swap? This swap sounds fun but I don't want to sign up and then do something wrong, haha. Thanks!

OneLitFirefly 06/15/2008 #

Oh, and one more question.. so this is all stuff we FIND? Like a swap of art supplies or something? Or can some of it be made? Like for example: something from your country.. could I do an American-themed ATC for this, or does it have to be something FOUND (like American stickers or ribbon or something)?

Thanks. I bought some 6x9 envelopes today just in case I do this. =)

smokeandmirrors 06/15/2008 #

By 'this cannot be a parcel swap' i meant that all the items have to be no thicker than a letter when in the 6x9 envelope. There shouldn't be a large box or bulky package to post. You can interpret each clue in any way you like. If you think 'Something from your Country' can be an American ATC that is fine or you could do stickers, postcard etc. All of them are definitely open to interpretation. As i mentioned i think in my last comment as long as you are able to explain the link between what you have sent and the 'clue' given then it is suitable! Hope you join!

pahasiga 06/15/2008 #

Is it for plain envelope or bubble envelope?

smokeandmirrors 06/16/2008 #

Plain envelope only! A bubble envelope will make it too bulky to be considered a letter. Am adding that to the information for this swap now.

annaboo2006 06/17/2008 #

Do we need one thing for each item on the list or could something cover more than one item on the list (do I make sense!!)

Juls 06/17/2008 #

hi, do i need to include 1 item per category or can i for example make a post card that blue and yellow and is made of paper and its hand made. OR is it something like either you have 10 items (1 per category) or 1 item that fits in all the categories???

smokeandmirrors 06/18/2008 #

You must have one item per category. Ten in total. THey cannot overlap categories. :-)

skunk 06/19/2008 #

Hi, sorry for the dumb question but I just joined Swap-bot...

how do we know who we are to mail our envelope to? are our swap partner(s) assigned to us?

thanks!

CrayonMom 06/19/2008 #

The host/hostess will tell the computer to assign partners after the sign-up day has passed. Partners are assigned at random by the Swapbot database. You will get a message in your email that partners have been assigned- you will need to come back to this page and click the link to see who you send to to get the address. Once you send your items, come back here to click sent. It's pretty simple, but feel free to ask-- there are some neat threads in the forums for newbies (like me) to read and find out the basics.

CrayonMom 06/19/2008 #

One simple piece of advice that will get you more oportunity to get into swaps--- fill out your profile... even if you just copy and paste it from your myspace, it's a lot easier for us to read without leaving the swap site. A lot of hosts will deny you access to thier swaps without a "full" profile.

Simone 06/20/2008 #

Thanks Smokeandmirrors for all the responses

skunk 06/20/2008 #

thanks panda!!!

smokeandmirrors 06/20/2008 #

Thanks Panda, you gave a great explanation there! I agree, a filled out profile is much easier to read and a lot of swappers won't take that extra time to go 'off site' for your info. Not long now till i assign swap partners!

eiko 06/21/2008 #

can i just confirm, the category 'something you collect' should that be something that the SENDER collects or something that the RECEIVER collects ?

cheers :3

mag 06/21/2008 #

can i also check, when you say they cant overlap categories, does it mean that if i pick something pretty, they cant be in the colors blue or purple, for example?

thanks! (:

smokeandmirrors 06/22/2008 #

They can be those colours but you still have to add something else that is blue or purple as well. There MUST be 10 items in total, one for each category. Hope that helps!

THe item for 'something you collect' should be something the sender collects.

Happy swapping!

carnivalé 06/22/2008 #

Belgian standard envelopes appear to be a few centimetres smaller than standard american ones, so i'm using a standardized belgian envelope , otherwise the shipping cost will go up!

owlsong 06/22/2008 #

My package is nearly nearly done, and while it looks like a rather thick sort of letter, it is still way smaller than a parcel. I hope my partner (and the organizer!) doesn't mind this. I'll probably be sending out on Monday or Tuesday! This was a great swap: thank you so much, smokeandmirrors!

smokeandmirrors 06/22/2008 #

No, i don't mind if it is a rather fat letter. That goes for everyone! Mine is roughly letter thickness but thicker than if i was just sending an actual letter to a pen pal. No problem carnivale, it is hard to get an exact sized envelope between all countries. I have been really happy with the response to this swap and i think in about a months time i will definitely host a number 2 of it. Hopefully everyone that enjoyed this one will join again!

owlsong 06/22/2008 #

For some strange reason, I am really eager to click that "sent" button. I have my items packed up and ready to go out, just chillin' there on my kitchen table. I hate that there's no mail on Sundays. >:(

smokeandmirrors 06/23/2008 #

I am eager too as well but i need to go to the post office before i can post it and it closes very soon....think it will have to wait until Thursday now. :-(

If anyone is having trouble with this swap don't hesitate to pm me and i will help as much as i can.

eiko 06/26/2008 #

i have to say i was a bit worried at first - everything i wanted to choose didn't fit into the envelope i'd made and anything i had that did fit wasn't really to my partner's tastes.. but in the end i think i've ended up with a package that's even better than my first ideas and i think really suits my swap partner's profile - fingers crossed.. will mail asap !! :3

Artistic 06/30/2008 #

A package went out today to my partner. Enjoy!

Artistic 06/30/2008 #

A package went out today to my partner. Enjoy!

tristia 07/ 1/2008 #

Hehe, my package was a little bit too fat too :) Ah well, it is still in the envelope though!

annaboo2006 07/ 5/2008 #

Love this swap - can't wait for number 2! I shall be keeping an eye out for it!

owlsong 07/ 7/2008 #

I notice that a lot of people haven't sent out, and it's pretty far past the send-out date. :( My partner is included, but, then again, she has all 5's and a ton of hearts, so obviously I'm not afraid of her flaking out. I just found it interesting.

threechickies 07/ 8/2008 #

owlsong, I believe the sendout date is July 25th. Please correct me if I'm wrong--I hope I'm not late on mine! I've had so much fun with this one, and putting it together to match the requirements and my partner's profile. Now to get that envelope to close! I'm sending it out by Thursday to caresalot.

carnivalé 07/11/2008 #

mine was sent off today too :D

smokeandmirrors 07/12/2008 #

That's right, send out date is only July 25th so people still have plenty of time!

smokeandmirrors 07/13/2008 #

Received mine today; thanks honeya9705!

Hope everyone else has enjoyed this swap as much as i have. Number two of this swap is now up and running so i hope you will all check that one out as well!

cloud9 07/14/2008 #

I sent mine off today...my first swap and I am hooked!!! I had a lot of fun with this swap, and my husband even helped out a bit!!!! I also made my first ATC for this one!!! I hope it all turned out good, and my partner likes it!!!

kudos to smokeandmirrors....great idea, and fun swap!!!

I can't wait to do my next one!!!

Beth :D

smokeandmirrors 07/16/2008 #

Part two of this swap is now up on the site so i hope i will see a lot of you there again.

Also, i have had a few members say to me that they haven't received anything from this swap yet. I would just like to direct everyone to look at the sent by date which is July 25th! Don't panic about not receiving a parcel yet as they don't have to be posted for another 8 days still. If 1-2 weeks after July 25th you have still not received anything please contact your partners, perhaps they are away or just a bit late.

wygirl 07/17/2008 #

This is difficult trying to find things that aren't too fat! It keeps ending up much thicker than a letter. Who knew this would be so hard.

skunk 07/17/2008 #

I'm sorry for a non-related question... but can someone tell me how to add a swap to my watch list? i can't seem to figure it out

thanks-

: )

smokeandmirrors 07/28/2008 #

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:
I have contacted all swappers who have not yet sent their items. If i do not receive a satisfactory reply from them i will advise their partners to leave a 1 rating and then proceed to attempt to organise an angel for those who have missed out.
