This swap is International

I took part in a swap like this last year and had great fun creating my 'me' and journal for my partner to complete - unfortunately i was flaked on so never received anything to complete myself!

For this swap you will create a paper/card flat version of yourself (like flat stanley) and a journal. These will be posted out to your partner who will take the flat 'you' out and about and record your adventures in the journal.(you'll receive one to do the same)

After about 2 weeks of 'holiday' partners will mail the complete package back so you can all read about your adventures! (as long as it's all returned within the 2 month time limit)

Your journal should include photos(with the flat me), writing, anything interesting you collect on the way.(postcards, menus etc)

I've given this swap 2 months to complete as mailing times are different for everyone. After 2 months we all should have received, completed and posted back out our journals.

Any questions please contact me. :)

This swap takes time and effort so sorry no newbies on this occasion. 4.7 and above please.

Enjoy

I've amended the length of the swap so that everyone can have plenty of time and adventures!

This is a fantastic idea, but I think one month to send the flat me/journal, perhaps internationlly, record adventures and send back is way to short a time.

i love this idea. hopefully somebody will suggest it again when i am no longer a 'newbie' [:

Welcome everyone so far..we've got Scotland, Germany, Sweden and USA...should make for interesting journaling!:)

lilianambrose 06/ 1/2008 #

This is just like "Flat Stanley" done in schools around the world!

kgeslab 06/ 3/2008 #

Can we specify the journal size and amount of writing. I know journals can cost 11-15 USD to ship overseas, so I'd rather make a paper journal to reduce shipping. Maybe we could make our own journal for our partner rather than sending a blank one?

yowell 06/ 6/2008 #

Journals can be any size, handmade is great. it doesn't have to be thick, just enough for your partner to record flat 'me s' adventures over a couple of weeks in. :) I made one for the last swap like this, it was slightly bigger than A4 but landscape and it was quite thin.

Hi there, Just signed up for this swap. I'm going to make a little book as a journal because buying one + shipping would make it all very expensive! I'm going to get started and make the stuff to send right now so I only need to add the adress and send it off :)

madeofstars 06/15/2008 #

This would be fun to make several rounds that way our flat me's can have many adventures through out the year! Also do we put anything in the journal before we send it out or just send it blank along with our flat me?

yowell 06/16/2008 #

that's a good idea madeofstars, if this goes smoothly then we could have a round 2. Maybe make a journal that could be added to? So for this round we could make the covers and pages and next time we'll only need to send extra pages! (not compulsary only a suggestion, because i know some people might have already made theirs!) :)

Ummmm... I hate to throw a kink in your plans, but if the send date is in September, that means we won't get assigned partners until then... right?

CrayonMom 06/18/2008 #

Oh, nevermind... my brain's not working today... forget that last post.

yowell 06/20/2008 #

Hi to everyone who's signed up....panda2778, i have days like that (and they're getting more frequent!) :)

yowell 06/20/2008 #

Once everyone can confirm they've received their completed journal/doll back then I think i'll start round 2...probably end of September (ish).

carol 06/20/2008 #

I did this last year and loved it! One hint I'd give is to specify size. My partner made a giant one that made it difficult to carry around. It's really nice when the doll fits in a greeting card size envelope (A2).

I made a "book" from A2 envies and sent it along. It gives you something to put goodies in along with the photos! Here's a site on making this "book":

This is probably one of the most interesting swaps I've ever been in! I'll be in 2 countries within the swap period, so I guess this will be fun for my partner to read. Looking forward to this swap! And if my partner makes me a book, please try to include an envie so that you can get extra small bits from me!

ok, so i'm a newbie, but i am very keen and excited to do this :D I'm in Melbourne, Australia, and i received a flat Stanley from a family friend in texas, and had so much fun taking the photos etc. i'm committed to the task, and on uni holidays, so i have lots of time!

yowell 06/30/2008 #

Hi iamsohipithurts, i'm sorry i have to say no for this one, :( When you get some ratings come and join the next one -we'd love to have you. (if you want to do a private swap to boost your ratings just let me know) I've had to turn a way a few newbies, but this swap should continue on for a few rounds,(I hope) so you're all welcome back. :)

innocentprncss 07/ 1/2008 #

I think that this sounds like fun and would love to give it a whirl when another one comes around

eor1122 07/ 1/2008 #

One of my daughter's just did this. Sounds like fun!

yowell 07/ 2/2008 #

Partners have been assigned - have fun everyone :)

yowell 07/ 4/2008 #

Hope this clears up any confusion - By the end date - September 1st, you should have posted out your flat me, received one, had your adventures, posted it back and received yours back too. The end date is really the last date for posting the completed swap back to your partner, but as it's a long date we should all really have completed the swap before then. (but life happens!)Catherine :) (yowell)

Feel free to pm if there's any queries...

yowell 07/26/2008 #

I've messaged everyone who has still to send.

OlcSylvia 08/24/2008 #

I have put my swap as sent now even if I did not receive a "flat-me" to be send back. I have prepared a journal with a week full of vacation with a substitution "flat-me". So if anyone needs an angel on this swap, feel free to ask.

yowell 09/ 1/2008 #

I've added a day on to the send by date, it's now the 2nd, I'm told the 1st is a holiday in the U.S and the post offices are shut!!which I didn't realise :)

carnivalé 09/ 3/2008 #

mine has been sent back for a week now!
