Description:

2.5" squares or mini charms can make a great quilt or other small craft. For this swap you will be sending two partners 20 modern quilt shop fabric squares in bright colors. Here are the details for this swap:

• You will be swapping 20 [twenty] – 2.5” squares of material with 2 partners.

• Your squares should be a combination of BRIGHT colors. This mean no blacks, browns, greys, or muted colors as the primary color. Think spring and summer!! Use a mix of patterns with little to none solids included – they patterns do not have to match as the variety of fabrics is the fun of it.

• Fabric should be quilt shop quality (think Michael Miller, Riley Blake, Moda, Andover, Cloud 9, etc.) or modern fabrics from other retailers like JoAnn Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc.

• Fabric should be quilting quality cotton material. Fabrics that would not be allowed would be flannel, heavy weight cotton, polyester, etc. Remember only swap material that you would be happy to receive for a quilt.

• It is an expectation that each be cut as a 2.5” by 2.5” square. You have a grace of about 1/8" on each side however squares any larger would not meet the requirements.

• Each 2.5” square should be a single material (please don’t sew scraps together to make a square).

• Since you are only sending 20, please send a variety.

We all understand that life gets in the way sometimes however it is expected that you will send your squares by the deadline. If you are unable to do this communication is key!!

As for ratings, if you received 20 quality bright fabric squares on time this would meet the swap and deserve a 5 regardless of whether you love every fabric pattern sent.

I will also be starting a color series of this swap.

So, may I cut the squares 3 inch by 3 inch, to make sure my partner gets the right size in case I make a slight wonky cut?

I will do my best to cut straight, but a total of 40 squares is going to test my eyesight. :)

I will be buying 100% cotton of course! quilting quality fabric. How many different patterns should I send please?

I want to make sure I get it right. I haven't done a fabric swap before. I know that I love bright, busy fabrics, but will try to be a bit conservative and not send reptile patterns.

Typically with a swap of a specific size, you should stick to the size requirement. I have allotted a little wiggle room with the 1/8" on each side to make it about 2.75 by 2.75 square. Your partner should be able to use what you send right out of the package and not have to do additional cutting.

As for as patterns, send as much variety as possible. I try to never send more than two of any one pattern but some fabrics depending on how you cut them look different on every cut so that might mean you can send 3 or 4 but really it's the variety that makes this fun!

I am glad you are interested in joining in! Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!!
