Description:

Greetings to all of the readers! This is the third reading log swap for 2008.

This swap is for people who love to read and would like to both keep track of what they've read and share their lists with two other readers and/or bibliophiles.

You'll be sending your partners a reading log that contains your thoughts on all the books you read in July, August and September. The log can be in any paper format.

It doesn't matter what you read: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, Manga, zines, audio books, e-books, children's, etc. You just need to jot down the title, the author and give a minimum of a one paragraph description about the book and your thoughts. You can feel free to include things like favorite quotes, the author's Web site, etc. Whatever you want to say about the book.

This is a quarterly swap, so there will be four reading log swaps posted in 2008. At the end of the year, you'll have a file that has all of your reading recorded and the full year could be created into a zine or be part of a holiday letter to friends. :) A quarterly system will allow people to join in during the year while making it less likely that people will forget about or flake on a year-long commitment.

This third swap will be for books read in July, August and September 2008.

I recommend keeping a computer file for your log so it will be easy for your partners to read and so you won't lose it, but your log can be created in ANY format you like. It needs to be paper and mailed via post. It can be as simple as a piece of notebook paper, a mini-journal, a letter, a zine, a quarter-fold newsletter, etc. The format is up to you.

The details:

a) international (sent via the post, NOT e-mailed)

b) two partners

c) minimum requirements: one book each month; one paragraph about the book. Author, title.

Voracious readers, like your host, read more than a single book a month. :) And since you're considering this swap, you probably read more than one as well! So there's no maximum. If you read it in July, list it under that month in your log, and so on.

The fine print:

Newbies welcome. Rated players need a 4.6 or higher. All participants must have a completed profile. I ban after the swap closes. As both a swap participant and coordinator, I like people to have positive swap experiences, so please no forum drama.

There's no need to wait for partners to be assigned. Get reading!

I'm really looking forward to doing this! I've started to make a note of what I'm reading already, so apologies to the people who receive an epic tome for June, as well as July, August and September!

Artistic 06/19/2008 #

No apologies necessary. We're AlL book lovers here! :)

This swap suits me perfectly, finally the kick in the butt to get finished with the two books that I'm currently reading.

Way to go, Artistic! Top 10 for Readers!!!!

I see this is number 3! Great! I'm hoping it is ongoing... I have a situation that prevents me from my usual 'book-a-week' reading right now, so I won't join. But as soon as I'm back on track I REALLY want to see this swap offered again so I can participate!

Sounds absolutely delightful. I like to write longhand with my fountain pens. Hope no one minds. I'll be neat.

Artistic 07/10/2008 #

Mommyknows: Yes, the swap is going for the entire year; one quarter -- three months -- at a time.

Dawneca: Longhand is fine, but remember you have two partners.

Happy reading!

Awesome. I wonder if I can ask my partners to send me their list by email in ADDITION to the paper copy (if they are keeping the list on their computer)?... That would make it easier for me to keep track of, refer to, and visit links. Would that be acceptable as an optional addition?

anwyn 07/16/2008 #

Blurg that is a good idea some people keep their lists as part of their blog (like me) so you could just head over to the blog and use the links from there instead!

Artistic 07/17/2008 #

A paper copy must be sent to your partners. You can include anything else you'd like, including URLs.

^^ looking foward to this

Since I was part of the last swap I actaully started making a list as soon as I sent the last list out. I'm up to 9 books already....I might actually make my 100 books by January after all!!!

I checked my partners and I see that some of the books I'm going to be reading are in their dislikes.

What to do? Make different copies for the two partners - with shorter comments about the books they won't be interested in? Or don't change the copy of the log, but let them know on the separate note, which books are those? Do nothing, as everyone can skip the entry about the book as soon as he finds out it's something he doesn't like?

Cauchy: This swap isn't about what your partners like. It's about what YOU read.

As an aside -- via the two swaps I've already done with this, I've read about books I NEVER would have touched let alone considered reading.

So read what interests you and log about it. Happy reading!
