As explained by Sir Terry Gilliam, the Poisson Majeur is the large fish traditionally used in the Fish Slapping Dance that marks the opening of the "Saison Eclusiere" at Teddington Lock. Halibut is the traditional choice, but there are of course other options to send the "Lock-keeper of the Two Pilchards" flying into the water. This swap has been created, that Very Silly People may send their partner a Large Fish through the mail. Fish may be created out of any suitable material (such as paper, plastic sheeting, etc) and sent folded in order to create a compact form that may be inexpensively posted. As it states in the Booke of Keeping the Teddington Sluice, the fish shall be sent naked (ie, not in an envelope), yet they shall NOT be sent unclothed, lest they incite Feelings of a Base Nature. Therefore, the fish must be portrayed as wearing undergarments suitable for the season and occasion. I searched in vain for "fish wearing underwear images" on the internet, and believe me, there is very little underwear designed for fish available, so you may need to custom-design it, or draw it on, should you decide to participate in this Petit Echange. An upper and lower undergarment would be appropriate, in most cases. In the case of the Canadian Lumberjack Fish, suspenders should also be worn. Some fish prefer to wear stockings. We should not judge the fish on their choice of undergarments, as it is not our business to judge fish on their choice of undergarments. One fish, wearing underwear yet sent naked through the mail, folding OK, flat mail OK, judge not the fish on its undergarments.
