USAPC: Let's Make a Zine!

Have you ever wanted to create a zine? Do you frequently create zines? Do you even know what a zine is? If you answered, 'yes,' to any of these questions, this is the swap for you!

For this swap you'll be creating a zine from a single sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper and mailing it off to 3 partners. I like to refer to this as the 1 sheet/8 page/1 cut format. You must fold and cut your paper in a specific way. Here's a great site (with pictures) for instructions:

The subject of your zine is . . . . "About Me" where you will tell your partners all about yourself in those 8 mini pages! Please follow this format:

Cover page . . . . . . . . . . Title of zine & illustration

Page 1 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Favorite quote or quotes

Pages 2-5 . . . . . . . . . . . .All about you

Page 6 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Design a postage stamp about you or something you're interested in

Back cover . . . . . . . . . . Hand drawn illustration/parting thought

Your zine can be created with typed or handwritten words, hand-drawn, collaged, or found illustrations.

If you've never created a zine, here is MY process (not necessarily the "right" way but it works for me)

• Fold your letter-sized paper according to the instructions

• Unfold the page and paint or decorate the entire page with paint, markers, pictures, etc.

• From a different sheet of paper, cut out 8 pieces of paper, each measuring 2.5" x 4". These will be your pages.

• Create your pages on these little scraps and glue them onto your decorated base in the correct order.

• Make 3 copies of your decorated/pasted sheet

• Fold/cut each copy (3 in all) and . . . voila!. . . . you're a published author!

• Send 1 copy to each of your 3 partners--you keep the original in order to make more copies in the future.
