Hello! I did a swap like this one before for a relative with breast cancer, and she absolutely loved receiving the surprise bundle of postcards at the end. So, I thought I'd like to try it again for another family member who needs a lift. Carson is my fourteen-year-old cousin. He's a brilliant and loving boy who loves playing video games and doing pretty much whatever it is teen boys like. But for the past few years, he's had a lot of trouble at school. He has Aspergers syndrome, which has unfortunately made him an easy target for bullies. His mother has been working tirelessly to make the world more comfortable, even switching his schools. But the bullying has only gotten worse as time goes on, and it's really starting to take a toll on him. Currently our family is trying to find ways to boost his self esteem in whatever way we can. This is my way. I was worried it would seem cheesy for him, but his mother said that he would love it. For this swap, the objective is to send one postcard to your partner and then one postcard to my address. At the end of the swap, when I have received a card from everybody on the list, I will bundle them together and either mail or deliver the parcel to Carson myself. This is for privacy reasons because I do not want to give out my aunt's address. On the card sent for Carson, write a small positive note to him. Maybe it's a funny story, a story about you overcoming bullies, a word of encouragement if you also have experience being on the autism spectrum, some interesting facts (he's big into science, and a total whiz kid in it), jokes or riddles, or even just a nice, encouraging message that will brighten his day. Swap for your partner is sender's choice, though it's always nice to send something based on your partner's interests. Just write something kind to spread a little joy. For Carson, he will enjoy pretty much anything. If possible, his favorite subjects are reptiles, insects, Minecraft, Pokemon, Big Bang Theory (particularly Sheldon), dubstep music, and Magic: The Gathering. I will send my address in an e-mail right before setting partners. |
