Description:

I just did this same type of Robin swap on-line with a group.I had the most fun and picked out some really yummy things. So what is a Unwanted Craft Supply Robin you ask? Thats quite easy to answer. On March/10 i will send out a box filled to the brim with wonderful items for Fabric Lovers and ATC and Collage ladies.I even have some wonderful yarns ect for you knitters. There will definitely be something for all tastes.

I will even throw in some yummy sweets.Once the names are assigned i will send the box to the person whose name i receive. She or he will pick out items they want and refill the box with the same amount they take out.In other words if you take out say 2 sheets of paper and a baggie of beads. You would need to put in 3 items of the same or more.It must be of the same quality or nicer.Try not to be to greedy lol but if you empty it you must refill it.Here are some rules to help you out.

The Rules: 1). Take as much as you like out of the Robin(s) as long as you can fill it back up. 2). Please do your best not to hold the Robin for more than three days! (Weekends, holidays, and emergencies not withstanding) 3). Email me when you receive the box and are ready to ship to the persons whose name you were assigned.. 4). Please use a Delivery Confirmation labels or if you are sending to Canada ask for the large customs label. 5). Reseal the Robin and send it on it's way. Make sure your postal worker scans the DC label into the computer. That ensures that the burden of responsibility is shifted from you to the USPS or so that it can be tracked if sent International. 6).You must include at least 1 handmade item. 7). Enjoy your newfound treasures!

If you have any questions please let me know. This swap is US and Canada only and open to newbies if you will receive a rating before the sign up date ends.If you wont then please dont sign up.If you have more then 1 no send i will ban you unless you can give me a good reason not to.

This really is an honor system please donot put in bad quality items.Theres a difference between vintage and trash. This is alot of fun and relatively cheap since you will be sending items you no longer want.

EDITED:PLEASE READ

Hi Everyone,

Ok here is what we will be doing. If you are in the USA you will only be paying $8.10 to send the box on.I will be using a flat rate box as pictured above. When you receive the box you will then replace it with another flat rate box.If you can remove all the stickers ect by all means use the same one.

If you are shipping to Canada it is $15.00 for air parcel force.

If you are in Canada shipping this box by covering it with wrap will cost you $12.43 Air Parcel 8 days to USA..Thats pretty cheap hughn.

Does this sound better to everyone?

Ok,So I get it and take what I like, then replace it with something else. Correct? Do we add whos hands were in it? :) I don't think I have alot of vintage items I could use, but I don't have "trash". What do you think I shoudl do? Wait?

funkykchicken 01/29/2007 #

Yes you take what you want from the box then add that many or more to the box.So you just replace with your own stash. When i say vintage i dont mean there will only be vintage items in the box.I have lots of scrapbooking items, knitting, painting, fabric, beads, buttons, charms, paper, vintage items such as old postcards, text, buttons ect. When i say trash i mean from the bottom of your drawer.Alot of Collage Artists like vintage. So new never used unfinished all thats fine.

I'm just wondering how big or heavy this box is going to be. It cost me $16 to send a small box to Canada from the USA, can't imagine what it would cost to send a big box to say, Australia. I think this sounds like a blast, but I'm worried about the shipping cost.

VelveteenRabbit 01/29/2007 #

Are you sure that swap-bot will create a complete link among all the participants?

funkykchicken 01/29/2007 #

Jewels-It is a blast trust me when you receive the box it's like opening a treasure box.As for the cost it could be around $25.00 for the size i will be sending out.The best thing to do would be to visit the www.usps.com and figure large package to Australia it would be $25.80 for 3 pounds.I plan to let everyone that joins know they should keep the weight at under 3 pounds if they are sending international.

So lets review Airmail Parcel Post to Australia-$25.80 Airmail Parcel Post to Canada-$15.00 Airmail Parcel Post to Germany-$22.90

Those are the places i have had to send to lately. If you were to join my color swap for instance it would cost you $25.00 + shipping. So the rates here are quite reasonable i think.Your not going out and buying stuff, your giving or replacing what you take.Yarn, beads, buttons, paper ect is quite light weight.

Velveteen Rabbit: I will be checking after the names are assigned that everyone will get a go at the box.I will email everyone once swapbot has assigned names.

Thanks

Joyce

funkykchicken 01/29/2007 #

I just wanted to add that if you are in Australia,Germany,France,England ect i dont know what it will cost you.I cant calculate the postage. So before you decide to join please visit your post office.Ask them to calculate postage for around 3 pounds. If we all work togather to keep the weight down everyone will have alot of fun and receive some nice items.

Winnie 01/29/2007 #

Hi! I would like to know what is the equivalence of 3 pounds in gramos. Its a great idea, and I think that it value the cost/price. (I dont know if you understand what I mean, I dont speak english very well :p) Postage is expensive to me where I from, so I will still puting money in my slot porky bank. (How can I say "Alcancía"? jajaja I dont have dictionary here, I leave it in my house) Well, I hope I will can sign up for this swap, I like it so much. Good Luck! Winnie

funkykchicken 01/29/2007 #

1 pound=454 grams so x that by 3 and you get 1362 grams

WillowTree21 01/30/2007 #

How long will it take to go through 14 people, lets say?

funkykchicken 01/30/2007 #

It depends on how many international players there are.It takes about 10 days for it to go from US to there.Everyone should only keep the box for 3 days max. if there are no international players it will go faster. So lets say about 1 to 2 months give or take a few days.If there are international players then you would want to add about another 30 days on there.

funkykchicken 01/30/2007 #

Right now there are only 3 international players.2 from Canada and one from Poland..

Winnie 01/30/2007 #

WoW, Fast answers. Thanks, funky, thanks Willow Package cost (3 pounds) will be under US20-25 to me. (Im from Chile, Southamerica) To Forward the package takes 15 days to Europe, I think that send it to US is faster. But dont you worry, i dont know jet if I could sign in, so maybe you will can´t wait to much for the package, jajajaja. Well, I think that Poland wouldnt be more faster than Chile, jajajja Anyway, there are few internationals only, so few people will may pay more. I have to pay more ever sign up!jajajja Just I think that value the cost to pay for sharing with different people. I didnt know that swaping exist until my sister found the site and invite me. It impress me and I thought that its a very good idea and so funny. I used to share things with my friend at the school when I was a teenager. We shared letters, stickers, pencils, books, etc. Swaps remaing me the past. :) Its funny and joy, happy to receive specials things from another person. Well I think that Im writing too much. Top say "Leave a comment", not "leave a letter". See ya! Good luck!

Winnie 01/30/2007 #

Ups, I was wrong... It would cost US50 :s

WillowTree21 01/30/2007 #

Winnie if I join this swap and the box hits me before you .. I will tuck a note in the box with 5 American dollars in it and maybe you can use it to help. Of course after you convert it :) 50 dollars to mail it back would be alot. Lets see if can join first .. this depends on my jobs :|

PS I have written letters here too. I am much better here, than a letter :) My handwritting is bad!

funkykchicken 01/30/2007 #

If you are in Canada shipping this box by covering it with wrap will cost you $12.43 Air Parcel 8 days to USA..Thats pretty cheap hughn.

If you are in another country it could be very expensive. You may want to reconsider.I may be considering this for USA and Canada only because of the cost.

Does this sound better to everyone?

Prpldy 01/31/2007 #

I would LOVE to join if you set one up just for USA and Canada...due to the cost....I sent a tiny package over seas...don't remember where and it cost me over $14 and had I known prior I would NEVER have joined up for the swap. So if you do a USA one please let me know.

funkykchicken 01/31/2007 #

Prpldy

right now there is only 1 person and shes from Poland.I'm very happy to send to her and pay the cost myself.I'm changing it now to US and Canada Only.I had already decided to do that last night.

Susi 02/ 6/2007 #

theres one from poland and one from chile, if she joined... hola winnie, yo hablo español! thi sounds like fun, and similar to a travelling altered book i am also doing on swap bot...you have to decide if the chance of getting neat treasure from other countries outweigh the shipping costs! I am not working now, due to sick leave and funds are low... but "happy mail" keeps me from going crazy and getting depressed! si it's a choice you have to make..... jmho, susi

Susi 02/ 6/2007 #

i will ship overseas, if need be... i have already decided... susi

funkykchicken 02/ 6/2007 #

Susi-Thats how i feel.I would love to take the chance and maybe get items from some where else.I did this with another group and picked some really great stuff from the box when it was my turn.Really it's just lots of fun.

FunToScrap 02/ 6/2007 #

This sounds so VERY fun! I love the idea.

na 02/10/2007 #

this sounds like SO much fun! i cant wait !! ~~ :)

na 02/10/2007 #

i just wanted to comment :: i know that is REALLY unfair to exclude the international people but even if they're ok with sending to the US, what about people in the US having to send internationally? that ONE or TWO people being 'stuck' with sending to the UK can get REALLY expensive! i just sent a package to singapore that cost $19 , yikes. so i mean, basically anyone who signs up for this swap [if it is international] has to be OK with sending a pretty heavy box internationally, right? i think it'd be cool if there was a US/canada and then an international one, where anyone could join they would just know the terms. sorry, just my 2cents! <3 im really excited though, hehe!

funkykchicken 02/10/2007 #

You are right this can be very expensive if sending over seas...The Robin is now US and Canada only to save on shipping. If your in the US then you will be sending for $8.10 to another person in the US if you send to Canada then it will be $15.00...It will be really fun and I'm looking forward to getting started.

Susi 02/11/2007 #

what about the people from poland and chile? were they just asked to leave the swap? I would gladly have traded partners with someone got one of them. It's kind of unfair to ask that they leave just because they are over seas. Anyway, I am not the coordinator of this swap, so who am I to say anything. It was just my opinion anyway. susi

funkykchicken 02/11/2007 #

No they were not.I indicated that i would happily ship to the lady in Poland. The person in Chile never signed up.I think that the cost of sending it back to the US was to expensive for them.I would never ask someone to leave the swap unless there ratings were really bad.

Susi 02/12/2007 #

oh thats a shame, i would have signed up to partner with her, since i love latin american culture...

shazzam 02/17/2007 #

This sounds awesome ... too bad about the prohibitive postage overseas :-(. Does the box go full circle? ending with you ... (seems right to me!)

funkykchicken 02/17/2007 #

The box will end with me yes.I agree with you about overseas shipping.Unfortunately the box would cost them upward of $50.00 so that is unfair as well.I would love for this to be International but it's not possible with shipping prices.

user5769 03/ 1/2007 #

Hi! This sounds like the most fun swap I've ever seen! I would gladly pay the postage to the other countries just because I LOVE receiving packages from overseas! Maybe in the future we could do a swap that somehow could add the option for people who don't mind paying overseas postage to add postage to the box for the person overseas that receives it?? Don't know, maybe that would be too confusing, but if it can be done, I'm in! And, if you need volunteers to send internationally and add postage to the box, I'll be glad to volunteer. I mostly knit and crochet but have lately started making handmade post cards and greeting cards and have some really neat craft items I can add to the box. The items I have received from other countries were made extra special when people added items specific to their part of the world. So, just let me know if you need someone to do a little extra ok? Sounds like we have a nice group of people. Thanks so much for doing this swap! Sandy

funkykchicken 03/ 1/2007 #

Sandy:It will be tons of fun i promise. The best part is getting to pick the goodies. The reason it is not international is due to the cost.I had considered adding an envelope and letting those that wanted to add some funds. If this one goes well then i will consider doing an International one.I really don't think there is enough interest however.

funkykchicken 03/ 1/2007 #

Hello Everyone,

For some reason swap-bot isn't letting me assign partners. So i thought i would explain everything. When I'm allowed to assign partners please give me a couple of days to send you and email.I will be moving my name and my partners name to the top of the list. The person who is to send to me will be put at the bottom of the list.

I will be checking the list and putting it in order so that everyone will get the box. When you receive the box there will be two sheets of paper inside.1 will list our names and the order we are to send it in.So this means (names are made up)

Joyce

Marie

Laura

Joyce will send to Marie. When Marie receives the box she will mark her name off and send to Laura and so forth. The second sheet of paper will contain a list of everything i put in the box.You will mark off what you took out and add back the same amount. So for instance if you take out say

Beads

Yarn

Charms

You will add 3 items back plus 1 hand crafted item. The hand crafted item can be anything you want. The hand crafted item should be in its own little plastic bag or container and marked hand crafted. You will receive a hand crafted item and then the next person will as well.

When you add something write down what you added at the bottom of the list. Then email me when you receive the box and when you ship it off again. You will need to use delivery confirmation which i will add to the box. This way we can track it.If you send to Canada please use the large customs form that i will also add to the box.

I will add everyones mailing address to the sheet of paper unless i get requests not to do so.This will be the easiest swap you will have done i promise. The Delivery Confirmation as well as the Custom Forms and Addresses will be included. Its very important that you send the box as soon as possible. If you don't this could turn into a long robin.

I will be adding a small envelope as well.I would love it if each of you could add a letter or note.I would love to hear how you liked the box ect. It's not required though. Please add pics to the gallery if you want.

I will be sending each of you an email soon. And the instructions ect will be in the box.

Most importantly lets have fun.

user5769 03/ 2/2007 #

Thanks so much! I'm so excited!! (it doesn't take much for me, but this really is exciting!).

So, I'm a little slow I guess and you have explained very well, but I'm just a little confused about one thing:

The way I'm understanding it is that we will not be sending the box to the person who is assigned to us by Swap-Bot and that you are going to give us a different list with the person we send the package to once we receive it? Or, do you start the package with the person you send to and then so on and so on until it gets to the person who sends it back to you (which happens to be me!). I mean, I've got plenty of time before I receive it and by then I should know who to send it to but, if you are going to be the person I send it to I just thought I'd go ahead and start thinking about what I would add to the box for you when I receive it. Thanks!!! Oh and one more thing, I don't have any objections to having my address on the list in the box.

funkykchicken 03/ 2/2007 #

Hello, I'm sure it is confusing. If i over think it i get a bit lost myself. No i don't assign swap partners. What i do is put us in order.Everyone sends to the person they are assigned to.You will understand better as we move forward.

Thanks

Joyce

P.S.I'm excited as well.

ArtsyKira 03/ 3/2007 #

A Yahoo Group I'm in did a very similar thing - it was called a Traveling Treasures Box. The person who initiated it put a little notebook/journal in it that each person then wrote in. They had to mark what they took and what they left behind (kept everyone honest) and could include any kind of personal note about themselves that they wanted. The notebook then ultimately returned to the initiator as a nice keepsake of the whole process. It was a good way for us all to get to know each other. Something to consider...

alwaysjoy 03/ 5/2007 #

I have a silly question here but can I add more than I take? I am assuming that I can but I just want to be sure. I have a pile of items I bought that I am never going to use and I want someone to enjoy them. As long as they fit in the box is that okay?

funkykchicken 03/ 5/2007 #

ArtsyKira: What a nice idea i will add a journal that each of you can write in.

AlwaysJoy: Yes you can include more if you want to.It will of course have to fit in the box.

FunToScrap 03/ 8/2007 #

How far has the box gone so far? Please post some pictures! Thanks!!! Warmly, Chy

user5769 03/ 9/2007 #

Hey - it would be nice to know where the box is!! Could we post when we receive it so that everyone will know how far it's gotten??? I'm so excited - I can't wait til it gets to me!!

user5769 03/11/2007 #

Hi. I got a message from swap-bot today saying that I had not sent my items yet and it was after the deadline. What should I do? I can't send it until I get it!!

cerwinrhiannon 03/12/2007 #

I was wondering the same thing as Sandy. I'm just going to say it was sent, to stop getting the messages. I hope that's OK.

ArtsyKira 03/13/2007 #

That's what I just did - hit "Sent." I've been in bed with a stomach virus for days and just checked my email to find I had 2-3 messages from swap-bot that this swap is overdue.

funkykchicken 03/13/2007 #

Hi Ladies, I'm sending the box out today.I had some personal problems.Yes please just hit the sent items button.I don't want anyone to get a message a day for this swap. Also today you will be receiving your list.I will have the instructions in the box that will let you know what to do when it arrives to you.Don't forget to post pics if you can.

Joyce

alwaysjoy 03/17/2007 #

Hi, Did you send the list yet? If you have I bet it went to spam for me... Can you resend mine? Sorry for the inconvenience!

user6020 03/22/2007 #

What's the status on this thing, anyway?

alwaysjoy 03/29/2007 #

Should I just send my partner my unwanted craft supplies? I have them all ready to go, just would need to box them.

ArtsyKira 03/30/2007 #

Has anyone else tried to email FunkyChickenOriginals? I've had no response today from her. I hope she's okay.

E11enT 03/30/2007 #

Hi, I emailed back a while asking if she had any communication from anyone on where the box is. It would be kind of neat to get postings on where it is and what has been taken and added. Haven't heard though.

ArtsyKira 03/31/2007 #

If we don't hear from her by the end of next week (4/9), I am going to initiate another swap on the same theme. Those here who were excited about this swap can sign up for that one. I'm going to call it Traveling Treasures Round Robin. Hopefully, though, we'll hear from her soon.

suzylucie 04/ 2/2007 #

I hope everthing is okay with our hostess. She mentioned personal issues on one of the swaps she hosted and also swap-bot computer issues. I know I've had swap-bot problems off and on a lot lately. I'd hate to think of what someone who has dial-up is going through!!!

ArtsyKira, I'll sign up for your swap, if this doesn't fly.

I have a lot of good quality things that I'm just not that into anymore, but others could use. I hate to see stuff sitting around and not getting used when it could find a new home and become useful again. I am involved in a ATC chain swap that has gone beautifully. So much more fun than I ever anticipated! Simply Sarah is the host and all the participants are high rated swappers, they add on quickly and get things right back in the mail. I mention this in case you want any help or feedback on organizing the thing.

ArtsyKira 04/ 2/2007 #

Thanks suzylucie - I could probably use some tips on the whole assigning partners/figuring out the round robin order thing. I'll be in touch next week if we haven't heard from Funky.

E11enT 04/ 3/2007 #

Hi Swappers - I've noticed that funkychickenoriginals has added a new swap for Quilt Blocks? I'm ready to sign up for the replacement swap.

user5769 04/ 3/2007 #

OH NO

ArtsyKira 04/ 4/2007 #

Some of us got an email from Funky that the box has been sent. Its first destination is Canada, so it can take 2-3 weeks. Hopefully she'll post here soon about it.

I can always start the other swap and people can do both. By the time this first box gets to you, you'll probably have accumulated more supplies to contribute. Goodness knows, I certainly have a bit of a problem with that. Watch out when there's a sale at Michaels! ;)

user5769 04/ 4/2007 #

Yeah, I was really glad to hear from her. I was sure something like that had happened! And, I mailed something for another swap to Canada almost 2 weeks ago and my partner still hasn't received it, so, it definitely can take a while, especially a big box. Hey any excuse for me to go to the craft store is good with me!!! What is the name of your swap Artsy?

user5769 04/ 4/2007 #

It's called Traveling Treasures Round Robin and I'll post it before the end of the day today. :)

ArtsyKira 04/ 4/2007 #

Okay, it's posted. I already have 10 swappers. I'm going to close it at 15 because I don't want it to take too long to get to everyone. I'll do another TTRR when this one is done. Might as well just keep the box going!

na 04/27/2007 #

Haven't heard anything about this swap -- what is going on with it ??

E11enT 04/28/2007 #

I am the first person that funkychicken is sending to and she told me she was sending out a second package since the first went missing. I have't recieved anything nor heard anything. so...?

E11enT 05/ 1/2007 #

Funkychickenoriginals rocks! Yippee the box has arrived. It's jam-packed full of all kinds of facinating stuff. Man, you must have an awesome stash, fco!!!!!

Unfortunately, I'm leaving to go to a meeting in another town in a couple of hours. Will be back on Thursday and will do the turnaround. Gosh, I want to keep it all myself - but I won't - I promise. I'll take a little and add a little and get along to you guys. There's a little diary inside for us to comment and list our give and takes. You guys are gonna love it!

cerwinrhiannon 05/ 1/2007 #

I can't wait!

FunToScrap 05/ 8/2007 #

WOW, there is still hope for this swap????? I had given up hope. I am SO excited now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maltagirl 05/21/2007 #

hey guys

where is the box these days??? I had given up on this swap and then got my hope revived! Has the box re-entered the country yet? It would be really cool if we could all enter a comment when we receive the box and then again when we send it out.

keep the hope alive!

suzylucie 05/21/2007 #

Something must be very wrong with the mail system in Canada. I got messaged a while ago that it was on it's way to me (first person in the US) but I haven't seen it yet. I'll post when I get it!

suzylucie 06/ 4/2007 #

I GOT THE BOX!!!! it was so fun, just like Christmas! I already had my stuff packed up and ready to go but I can't fit it all into the box! I'm going to try to repack it in the morning and fit everything in.

FunToScrap 06/ 4/2007 #

Oh hooray! I am so glad this is still going. Is anyone able to post photos?

suzylucie 06/ 5/2007 #

Sorry, camera went "boating" on memorial day, we hit a big wave and it took a swim.

Chinita 06/11/2007 #

wee hoo-the box came to me on Friday-I'll be sending it hopefully tomorrow-Tuesday. Let me just tell you-IT IS PACKED!

Please enjoy it as much as I did.

Rachel

ArtsyKira 06/13/2007 #

Yay! I'm next!

ArtsyKira 06/15/2007 #

The box just arrived! Holy crap! It is busting its seams and is so heavy! I'll open it tonight and ship it tomorrow. Yippee!

maltagirl 06/23/2007 #

hey is there a list inside of who to send it to next. I never got any info on that!

can't wait!!!!!

funkykchicken 06/24/2007 #

There is a list in the box yes.

GirlCanCreate 06/27/2007 #

hey there folks! haven't been around at all since march, but just happy to see that everything arrived in good form. I think that i might have packed the box too full, but i just wanted to add all of the fun bits that i think people would like.

best, Lisa

Chinita 07/ 2/2007 #

How's the box going? I'm just curious....
