Description:

Pocket letters are the Next New Thing here on Swap-bot, so let's try one. Look on youtube for some simple tutorials explaining them, but basically you take a trading card page protector having nine pockets (some of us exhibit our ATCs in them) and fill each pocket with a decorated 2 1/2x 3 1/2 inch card and some surprises. You can decorate the papers only OR the plastic protector itself. And one pocket (generally the top left hand corner, but any will do) includes a pen pal-ish letter.

The decorated card can be a complete atc, or can be more a piece of pretty cardstock with washi tape or a sticker... It can be double sided or not... It isn't so much that each pocket must be dressed up as it is the pocket letter as a whole should be tied together with a theme and look attractive and fun to receive. I've only made a few so far, but i try to make it artistic as a whole, with fun little flat surprises included for the recipient (tea bag, stickers, bookmark, paper clips, etc) and i try to make the back nice too.

The protector is then folded in thirds to slip into a business sized envelope, and the envelope is decorated some as well. These are generally 2-3 ounces. This MAY travel as a letter, if you have been careful, or it may be thicker than a letter (and be considered a large letter in USA), or it may be thicker than that and be considered a package. So be careful with postage. And think thin! Be sure to include proper postage, ask your post office if you aren't certain how it falls (in the US you can send it from your mailbox if it is a letter, large letter, or parcel under 13 ounces, and even internationally if it is a letter or large letter, but an intl package must be taken to your local po branch.)

Getting the idea?

So here are our group specific requirements...
-Choose a book you have read.
-Write a brief letter to your partner including the title of the book and the author, and a brief synopsis of the story. Maybe other facts like why you loved or hated it, etc., and anything else you'd like to write in the letter. The letter goes inside one pocket. -decorate each of the other pockets so that your pocket letter follows the theme of the book somehow. For example, The Hunt for Red October, you might make it mostly red, and add red surprises for your partner. Or you might go with a submarine theme. Or a Russian theme. Or even i suppose a sea creature theme! (Just explain your theme if it isn't obvious!) For Alice in Wonderland you might go with black and white checkered patterns and pretty flowers, or fantastical colors and swirls, or Alice characters, or tea party things. For Snow White you might do apples or mirrors or forest animals... Use your imagination. -send on time

Most importantly, have fun creating and filling this pocket letter and try to make it fun to receive as well.

Rate a five (or five heart) if you receive a themed pocket letter including a letter with a book name, author, and brief synopsis (pages, or just a sentence or two!), some small surprises included in the pockets, and (as far as you can tell) is sent on time.

This is not profile specific, but you CAN gear it towards your partner if you like. Because of this you may start creating anytime!

Let's go!
