Description:

I've been scouring swapbot on the lookout for a good bookish/letter swap for about a week now with little luck, so I've decided to host my own!

Basically, for this swap, you will write a letter to one partner and geek out about books. There is a list of 12 questions below to be answered in your letter. If you do not have an answer for one of them or want to change the question, you can do so as long as you indicate that (A) you have changed the question and (B)why. Feel free to write about more than just the set out questions.

You will be required to write 2 pages(or more!), on standard letter size (8½X11½), add more sheets if you are using smaller paper. Just remember, you are writing about something you love to someone who enjoys reading, so use your common sense, the more you write, probably the better! :P

Your letter can be handwritten or, if you don't think your partner will be able to read your handwriting, typed. This is an international swap. I will be checking ratings and profiles before assigning partners, no recent unexplained 1s or 3s will be accepted.

QUESTIONS:

1- Do you have a reading goal for 2016?

2- Why that goal?

3- What is your preferred time or setting to read ( ex: before bed, on the train, between classes, in your favourite bean bag etc.)

4- What was a book you read in 2015 that surprised you and why?

5- How do you choose the books you want to read?

6- Do you prefer Paperbacks, Hardcovers, ebooks, Used books or Brand new books?

7- Where is your preferred place to shop for books?

8- What are you currently reading?

9- Is there a book ( new or new to you) that you are anxiously awaiting?

10- What do you do to broaden your reading horizons?

11- Do you already know which books you plan to read for 2016?

12- What are some of the books you read in 2015 and how did you like them?

This swap can lead to being penpals if you like, but you are in no way obliged to reply to your partners letter. Most of all, write your little heart out, decorate as you wish and have fun! :)

Hi, I just joined and look forward to both answering th questions and receiving my partner's answers. I wish your sign up period were longer, I think you'd get more swappers, I don't mind the short period between partners and send-by date, but I think others might have that a ilttle too difficult. I've been swapping a long time, as you can tell by my profile, which Is why I'm kind of giving you some hints about timing, which I hope you don't mind.

I am a little nervous about joining because of the short period between sign-up and send-by too. It would be nice if that period had included a weekend so people who work full-time aren't worried that they might suddenly have to work overtime during this week.

Hi! Thanks for the input, I guess I was excited to get started haha. I prefer to keep my public sign-up periods short to avoid being overwhelmed by the amount of participants( I've only hosted a handful or so to date and I like to read everyones profiles and get in touch for clarifications etc.) I have however extended the send-by date over the weekend to the Tuesday the 12th..hope this is better for everyone :)

Can we answer the questions in list form, as long as we keep to the 2-page minimum length?

marlove 01/ 4/2016 #

I hope you keep this as letter format! I love writing and receiving actual letters, which is why I signed up for this. There's nothing worse than writing an actual letter, as per the swap description, and incorporating answers into it and receiving nothing but a point form note taking session in return :/

Shannoneke 01/ 4/2016 #

@ imaginarychimaera No, this is a swap for an actual letter, though you can incorporate the list in a fun and creative way if you like, so long as it is still a nice letter and NOT just a list with answers with a hello and a goodbye.

If you are worried you might forget a question or your partner might miss an answer, you could use a different colour pen for the first letter of each answer or put a little sticker flake near each answer etc. Hope this helps! :)

Can we go over 2 pages in a pinch? I ask this because some of us has a hard time stopping once we get gabbing... :P

Shannoneke 01/ 5/2016 #

Of course!! 2 pages is just the minimum. I doubt I will be able to keep under 2 pages honestly XP but some people have tiny writing or might type etc so I didn't want to require more than 2.

For those worried about the time to send. You can start to pre write the letter since you know the bulk of the content and then just need to fill in with a nice introduction when you get your swap partner. And then a closing.....
