Description:

@sabbysteg came up with a great idea for swap theme on the forums ... favorite childhood book characters!

I loved @sabbysteg 's idea of childhood literary characters -- in fact, I kept turning this wonderful idea over and over ... six times I turned it over, then I randomly went online and found this -- which falls into my "gosh darn, as an Amrrkin I love dose Brtish" category as they are advertised as "lumpy mailers." (Sorry, I listen to waaay too many fake American accents on BBC dramas :)

What could be more childlike than a pop-up box that can be read as a minizine? (The grown up advantage is that it can still be sent flat and keep our swaps international and affordable.)

There are fabulous tutorials for these pop up/ mail flat boxes, and most of them come from the UK ...

Pop-up cube by elliesnipper ... and templates, and a different set of tutorials without template -- you do your own geometry -- here and here by TuppenceColored.

And if you speak German, the EEU has also produced a great-looking tutorial by Bastelhexchen.

Swap will be for one pop up box/ sent flat mailer that can be read like a minizine (six sides = six pages) in the theme of .. favorite childhood book character(s). The idea is to create a cubic minizine -- an intriguing literary object that captures the imagination in the manner that our childhood literary heroes (or antiheroes) did.

Thanks to @sabbysteg for the idea! Keep them coming, ZMACS! (And thanks for OlcSylvia's assistance in helping me clarify my idea.) Open to all group members in good standing. I will pop up box/ flat mail all unsent swaps. Image is from readwritethink, and is of a cube designed to engage students in discussing elements of writing their own story (setting, main character, etc.)

Maaaaaaybe...I'm interested! I'm going to try a cube first and make sure I get it right. I love the idea!! If it works I'll be using these sometimes as pop-up pen pal letters!!
