Description:

Hello!! This is the first group swap I'm creating and I'm so excited to share my ideas with you!! :D If you like this one I have lots more ideas for the coming months.

For this swap you will create a felt needle book for your partner and decorate the cover with either embroidery or cross-stitch (whichever you prefer) you can also include applique like in the examples. I've compiled some example on pinterest of needle books if you need ideas.

Your book must have a decorated cover, and at least 2 sheets inside (giving you the front and back cover plus 4 pages inside, you would only need to use 2 sheets of felt on top of each other to and sew them down the middle to make your book). You can include more pages if you want and decorating the back cover and any of the pages with embroidery/cross stitch is optional. Also the inside of your book must have at least one "holder" for the needles, they should not just be stuck into the felt. The holder can be a band of material (example), it could be a pocket (example) or anything else you can think of to hold your needles.

The size of the book is up to you, but a guideline is around 2 or 3 inches (just make sure the needles don't poke out the top or bottom when they are inside. Also if you want to add a button or elastic to keep the book closed that is fun but optional.

Here are some links to tutorials and patterns, there is much more out there if you google needle book.

needle book pdf pattern

youtube video that goes with above pattern I think the scalloped edges and hole punching is unnecessary to be able to make this and the rest of her instructions are good

A different youtube tutorial

A blog with instructions for a fabric book which can be converted to felt

This swap is open to all group members but I will check profiles and remove anyone I feel is dodgy.

If you have any questions or something isn't clear pop them in the comments section. :)

I love this swap! But for me living in The Netherlands, it will be an international send and postage costs will be high. So that is why I don't join swaps like these (exept round robins,.... ) But I do love it, and I do hope you will host more of these!!!!!

I've sent packages similar to this to Europe, and I think if I get a partner in Europe it will probably cost me between $2.50 and $5.00 to send it. It should fit in a normal envelope, just be a bit thick and felt is pretty light so it shouldn't be to heavy. But I have no idea how much it would cost to go from Europe to North America and what your postage costs are like. If u like the idea you could make a needle book for yourself and post some pics to the group of your finished design so you can still participate virtually with us!

I've never done anything like this before, I am pretty excited to try!

I know for US swappers they hesitate because of postage. I was wondering if it is sent open (the needlebook, not the envelope of course) maybe that could make it flat enough to be an envelope rather than a package? I know for the U.S. It is more about how flat and flexible the envie is more than the weight-and this will be light weight. I will be joining, it is on my watchlist.
