Description:

For this swap you will create a Kodama stuffie for your partner!

A kodama (木霊, 木魂, or 木魅, kodama?) is a spirit from Japanese folklore, which is believed to live in certain trees (similar to the Dryad of Greek myth). Cutting down a tree which houses a kodama is thought to bring misfortune, and such trees are often marked with shimenawa rope.

  • For this swap we will be doing the Miyazaki style Kodama from the film Princess Mononoke.

I just adore these little creatures and would love to have one in my home :) (Even though they live in trees :P He can hang out with my houseplants ;) )

  • 1 partner

  • 1 stuffie that is between 5 and 10 inches tall. Can be any soft material/style you would like to make... felt, fabric, knit, amigurumi.... :D

  • International swap

  • Must have a 4.5 or better and no recent no-sends! Newbies welcome with FULL profile and a message to me first :)

I'm so excited that I've made my Kodama already. It will give me time to enjoy it before I send it out, because I REALLY love it. :) Can't wait to see what other people create!

Oh. Im supposed to be on holiday now but Ive been checking in on swap bot, this is a brilliant idea for a swap. Im going to have to watch this one for when i get back.

Those little tree fellows are lovely. I wonder if I can make one. Im a little bit of a newbie to sewing but thats not to say i wont try. May have to give it a go at doing a couple of extras. -gets excited-

lol this is so weird~ I actually made lots of these little fellas some time ago so I'm happy to send one out to somebody C:

teardrop 10/27/2008 #

How would one make one?

Guitartists 10/30/2008 #

Well, as far as I know there are no patterns for them, so it's a challenge for you to sew or crochet or whatever one out of fabric, yarn, etc. It's a big head on a pretty simple body. But, yeah, you've got to be able to wing it ;) I don't know if anyone else has or made any patterns they can share. I'm still working on mine.

Evilwitch 10/30/2008 #

Princess Mononoke is one of my favourite films so I had to do this one.

teardrop 10/31/2008 #

oh ok than you

Guitartists 11/17/2008 #

I hope you all don;t mind... I'm going to extend this swap by a week due to Thanksgiving etc... I know things get hectic this time of year ;)
