Hi iluffyew! I luff (hehe) this idea - I'm wondering though if it would be more fun to have two partners and send five to each. It would increase the variety of inchies we'd each have! Just a thought - I'll definitely be joining regardless and it's on my watchlist for now!

I am signing up for this swap but have never made inchies before so I hope whoever gets mine will like them. I do make cards though so I guess they're like a tiny card. If it goes well - I'll do all 100. Here goes..... Oh yeah- is card stock sturdy enough or do you use something else like mat board or chip board?

Like set 1-10 set 11-20... Just so your partner know's what swap they came from.

So everyone knows on the inchie project. My sister and I are doing this together and mixing our inchies. She will be doing 5 in each swap and I will be doing 5 in each swap. These are the last of the swaps she will be doing on my profile since she now has her own profile.

Are we doing fabric inchies? Or paper inchies? Probably should be clarified if people want to use all of them in one final project. :)

I've never made inchies or ATCs before and I'm hoping to try both, I know with ATCs one little picture stuck on and maybe embellished a little isn't really enough, but would that be enough for an inchie? there's only so much one can stick on an inch! I tend to be more of a photo/collage person as my drawing skills are pretty sucky :P

I am definitely up for this challenge - have never made an inchie before, just getting my head around going small to an ATC, used to scrapbooking 12x12 and cardmaking. Count me in - I want to experiment a bit more with the wole collage thing. Thanks for organising this swap StaceyLynn

I would love to join...inchies sound like such fun. Unfortunately I always seem to receive far away internationals and if I had to send 2 sets per month...it would add up [Last week two postcards to Norway cost $.97 cents a piece...doesn't seem like a lot, but it will add up...and please don't ask me about a smaaaaaaaaalllll box to Russia - THAT was $63.00 ...lol]

I too am confused about the numbering....

so our 1st partner's inchies will be numbered 1 -5 and then our 2nd partner will be labelled 6 -10....and the following month our new partner will receive 11 -15 and our other partner will get 16 -20? and so on....?

But if the first set is animals and the second set [month] is say...fruit? Won't it be confusing to label them from the same series, let alone some partners will have funky numbers?

One easy way to make a large number of inchies is to start with a piece of colored cardstock and paint on it with different colors, maybe some metallics or interference paints for effect. The paint scraping technique is cool--you drip on a few drops of two complientary or contrasting colors and either a gold, silver, copper or white and scrape it up the page with an old credit card or piece of matboard--something stiff. I go up one side, across the top, down the other side and across the bottom then up and down in the middle to scrape/spread the drops all over the page. I usually do a 6-12 at once, using up colors from each to add to the next, to have a ready stock of backgrounds for ATCs or whatever. I also keep some sheets of cardstock handy when I'm painting something to use up the extra dollops that I pour in my palette. Nothing goes to waste.

Then I sometimes tear very narrow strips of some old yellowed vintage booksI have and glue them on about an 1 1/4" apart in long stripes. or diagonally, or whatever strikes your fancy.

Then these can be cut into 1" strips, then into 1" squares. The addition of a small image and an eyelet or a brad or bit of ribbon or fiberous material, and an inchie is born!

I just had to sign up!! I would love to get some decent inchies - Ive done a few swaps and either been flaked or received a square of coloured paper - fingers crossed for a good swap here!!

As for the numbering, I think the original idea was that you would be sending the whole 10 to one partner, so it would be easy to number them 1-10, now however we're sending 5 to two partners so the numbering thing has gone a little crazy! Im sure either the host wil clarify or the receiver could number them themselves.

Twobluecrows - I love your inchies, and what a great tip about making the backgrounds, I hope to give that a go - thanks for sharing!!

Numbering systems are pretty standard in the Printmaking field, and they basically work for ATCs and inchies, too.

If all your pieces of art are exactly the same, meaning completely identical,and you only have a certain number of them, and no more will be made, then they can be in a limited edition ie: if you have 10, then each would be numbered as in 1 of 10, 2 of 10, 3 of 10, etc. If you have 50 identical pieces, then the same thing applies--3 of 50, 33 of 50, 49 of 50, etc.

If your pieces of art are similar in theme, or color, or subject, then they are a series, and are numbered as follows:

1 in animal series, #2, in animal series, etc.

If they are unique in every way, then they don't need a number, but you can put OOAK on them--"One Of A Kind"

Likewise an unlimited edition of identical things, like photographs or digital prints, where there is no end to how many you may print of them, no number is used.

In this case, I would think we'd be making 10 different animal inchies, so they could be numbered #1 in the animal series, #2/animal series, 3/animal series, 4/animal series, etc. Each different theme would create a new series.

I keep mine in a binder that has photo-slide sheets in it. The plastic sheets have pockets designed to store slides,and they are plenty of room for two inchies, put in back-to-back.

so "number your inchies" was actually meaning - write the swap name on it. -- cause this is supposed to be #1 out of 10 swaps.

twobluecrows, i love your pics, you have inspired me to have a go at this as i've not done inchies before. Am intrigued and looking forward to this. I love all the ideas listed here, so thanks to everybody, i'm sure we'll all have great swaps!! Can you also do a larger picture of an animal and then cut it up into inch pieces, sort of like a puzzle? So one inchie might hav a cats eye on it, another might have a cats nose, etc? Just checking before i begin...

I would LOVE to join this one! I have no clue what an ATC is, though. I'm so excited about this 'swap' stuff!!! I don't have any ratings yet, cause I'm a newbie :(

Helenjoy, I like that idea! Each inchie should look good as an individual piece of art though, at least I think so, so you could add some little embellishments to each to make it a good composition, and I would think also that the animal parts should be easily identifiable since it's a themed set.

I've made my inchies for this, but now I'm second guessing my self - they're all the pretty much the same (same animal - different angle, simliar backgrounds but with different embellishments). Is that okay to do?

No worries! As long as they are animals it doesn't matter! They are your original art and as long as you would be happy to receive them there shouldn't be a problem.

I use shrinky paper to make my inchies. Hope my partners are okay with that. Here is a sample of what I do:
