bunting: decorative flags, pennants, and streamers

garland: an ornamental chain of flowers, leaves, or ribbons hanging in a loop or curve between two points

Welcome to the Bunting/Garland Swap! I'm Melissa.

For our purposes, let's define bunting/garland loosely to be a handmade string or chain of fabric, paper, dolls, papel picado, crochet, knitting, ornaments, found objects, felt, etc. I've seen them made of glass, too, but that would increase postage considerably. For our swap, your garland/bunting should be at least 6 feet long, and the easier to make or less expensive the materials used, the longer it should be. If using fabric, the edges should be finished. Each end of the garland should have some sort of loop/hook/thingamajig for easy hanging.

A lot of garlands/bunting are triangular, but any shape goes. Here are some links to inspire you, including some tutorials:

This swap is open to anyone with a rating of 4.5 or higher and a well-filled out profile. I will be checking profiles before assigning partners, and removing anyone who doesn't meet the requirements. If you have concerns about someone on the participant list, please let me know. As this is my first time hosting a swap, there may be additions to this description--please be patient with me--and if you have advice for me, I'd love to hear it privately or in the comments.

I have started a Swapbot Group for Garlands, and hope to have seasonal/holiday swaps set up in the near future. If you would like to be an officer of such a group along with me, please let me know. Please join the group here: Garlands, Bunting, and Prayer Flags

Happy Swapping!

Is there a theme for the swap? OR anything goes?

myhalfofthebrain 09/28/2008 #

Hi queensonia. For this one, anything goes, although consulting your partner's profile first would be beneficial.

thanks myhalfofthebrain for tutorial links! I love your blog!

is this swap international?

ButtoneyedAnnie 09/29/2008 #

will you be doing one for USA only??

Thanks, Robin

This swap is international, but a swap for USA only is certainly an option for future swaps. Since this is my first time hosting a swap, I'd like to wait till this one is finished before I begin another. ButtoneyedAnnie, if you would like to join the Garlands group and become an officer, you could make such a USA-only swap, and open it to swap-bot as a whole..

Just found the group. Would like to participate in a future swap since I have a lot on my plate right now. Great idea for a group, by the way!

thanks for the nice feedback, freespirit66, and I hope we'll see you soon.

to all of you, I've begun sewing a garland, and I'm really liking how it's turning out. I hope it will be in colors my swap partner will like. I guess the worst that could happen is I'd have to keep it for myself and make another!
