Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:March 24, 2007
Date items must be sent by:April 4, 2007
Number of swap partners:3
Description:

This simple and fun recipe swap is for all you vegetarians out there. My husband and I recently decided to become vegetarians thus I'm in dire need of some good, easy-to-make vegetarian recipes.

For this swap, you will have 3 partners, and will send each partner 2 different EASY vegetarian recipes (thus no meat dishes). It would be great if they were recipes that one can make for lunch or dinner.

*If you're a vegan, please leave a comment mentioning this, so your swap partners know what type of recipes to send you.

The recipes can be computer printed or hand written, but please make sure they are legible. If you feel like it, you may include a note about each recipe and why you chose it, but that's not required.

Unfortunately, you will be dropped if you: have too many "no sends", a rating below 4.0, or a blank profile. If you fall into any of these categories, you must send me a message.

This is an international swap. Newbies are welcome, but please make sure your profile is completed.

I have two great recipes for this swap, but I want to know how easy it is for people to find tempeh. I can only get it speciality markets in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, area, but I shop those markets regularly so no big deal. If others find that a bit of a hassle, I can substitute another recipe for the tempeh one.

EmilyBemily 02/25/2007 #

Hi - so far, I've not been able to find tempeh in France. :(

ukquilter 02/25/2007 #

Zmrzlina - I doubt I can get it either although I haven\'t looked - I just live in that kind of place!!

dimanche 02/25/2007 #

if you get me as your partner, you can send me the tempeh recipe! I am lucky to live in an area where veg ingredients such as tempeh, seitan, et cetera are widely available :)

todsahonchik 02/25/2007 #

Tempeh is all over here in rainy Portland, mecca of vegan/vegetarians.

LMM 02/25/2007 #

Tempeh is also easy for me to find in Southern California.

user5893 02/25/2007 #

are we allowed to send recipes that involve fish? I have a this yummy and easy salmon recipe (with veggies) that you microwave. I am so absolutely happy that I discovered this recipe and would love to share it with others. :) have a happy day!

EmilyBemily 02/25/2007 #

Hi Jenny - sorry, no meat dishes for this swap. I\'ll clarify that in the description.

monkijan 03/ 1/2007 #

What a great idea - I've been mostly vegetarian for years & years, and have lots of simple recipes to share. Can't wait to see some more!

niecedenise 03/ 3/2007 #

Ive never tried tempeh but what the heck, send it on. Jenny email me at desmall53@yahoo.com I need some more fin recipes.

niecedenise 03/ 6/2007 #

OK i need some help and Im not getting it from my family. Exactly what is the difference between vegan and vegetarian. Everyone here disagrees, and i want to get this right.

PostMuse 03/ 7/2007 #

My understanding is that vegans do not use anything with animal products so that eliminates recipes with eggs, honey, milk, cheese and other dairy. Most vegetarians I know do eat those things. The recipes I'm considering do use cheese, and wine, which is not allowed in vegan diets, either, because the process of making wine involves animal products. I hope this is okay, but I'll be watching to see what the host and others say.

niecedenise 03/ 7/2007 #

Thanks for the info, you agree with me. Ill wait for others unput also.

EmilyBemily 03/ 7/2007 #

Well, this is a vegetarian recipe swap, but there might be some vegans participating. If there are any vegans out there, please leave a comment so your swap partners know what sort of recipes to send you.

welovepandas 03/11/2007 #

Ooh I love getting new recipes! I don't know where to get tempeh from here, but things like tofu is ok.

dimanche 03/17/2007 #

PostMuse: there are many vegan wines available :) I would prefer to receive vegan recipes, but it doesn't matter much because figuring out how to veganize things can be fun!

PostMuse 03/17/2007 #

Vegan wines are very hard to come by in PA. We have state-run liquor stores here and it is hit-or-miss with finding wines. We usually end up going over the state line to Ohio to buy wines we read about or specialty wines like vegan. The one vegan wine I have had wasn't very good, but I can't remember the name. I'd know it if I saw it, though.

I have been cooking up a storm since joining this swap, trying to come up with two recipes that are made with easy to find ingredients (I get very spoiled having Whole Foods grocer nearby). I think tonight's dinner is a winner. What fun I've had the last couple weeks! And I think I've taken every vegetarian cookbook out that the library has :-)

HappyCactus 03/21/2007 #

If anyone is having trouble finding veggie recipes, Vegetarian Times is an excellent resource. You should be able to find it at a well stocked news stand.

todsahonchik 03/21/2007 #

I'd like to recommend Horn of the Moon cookbook. Very simple but tasty dishes. My favorite and I use it constantly.

PostMuse 03/22/2007 #

The veggie cookbook I love at the moment is Going Wild in the Kitchen by Leslie Cerier, though the ingredients are not easy to come by unless you have a very good grain and vegetable grocer nearby. The book I've found with the most recipes using easier to find ingredients is Veggie Chic by Rose Elliot, but that one is more gourmet.

I'm going to take a peek at Horn of the Moon today, and I always browse Vegetarian Times for recipes.

LMM 03/22/2007 #
