Hello, WIYMers! Drunk on the power of being able to host swaps in this group, I hereby launch my first WIYM swap. It's a happy swap to share good news. Good news can be small or large. Sometimes it's as simple as "the birds are eating the seeds I put out for them" or "I went to the dentist and I have no cavities". Sometimes it's life-changing: a pregnancy, a new job, a new love, a new home, an exam finally passed. Share your happiness and good news with the swapbot community, please! Chose the format to suit you: postcard, letter, poem, cartoon. Keep it simple, flat, cheap and low-key. All the usual WIYM rules apply. Please refrain from interpreting "good news" as an invitation to mission. Cheers! Clarification (thanks for the question, Reader44): your news does not have to originate from the period of the swap. Tell us your exciting news even if it's a few weeks old. If you're still bursting with excitement, then it's news! Here's some exciting news I'd like to share: Yesterday, a barber on my street was celebrating the 35th anniversary of his business. He came to Germany from Turkey, penniless and optimistic, like the rest of the first Turkish-German generation. Now, he's practically a cult figure. I gatecrashed his party long enough to congratulate him, and he invited me to stay, drink champagne and all the rest. I didn't, but I was filled with joy to see him surrounded by well-wishers and celebrated by us, his community. I am proud to have him as my neighbour and to have contributed to the happiness of his evening. It is not easy to be Turkish in Germany. I hope other young Turkish Germans will take hope from his well-earned success. |
