Description:

I am a Stephen King fan. I'm not in love with everything he writes, but I've read them all (at least once), and we share the books as a family to such a degree that we call him "Uncle Steve" in our house! His latest book "The Outsider" just came out, and I thought this could be an interesting swap. :)

This is a flat mail swap, just a letter or a card, and will be a fairly quick turn around. You will have 1 partner, and the swap is International, as Mr King has fans world wide. :)

In a letter or on a note card to your partner (handwritten or typed, either is fine) tell your partner how you first were introduced to Stephen King's books, if you have favorites, or any you really don't like. Do you collect all the books you read? Have you listened to any on audio book? Do you have a favorite narrator for his books? Have you ever attended a talk he has given about his books, or been to a book signing? What about the Dark Tower series? Have you read it, what did you think? Are you a fan of the movies that have been made from his books, or the TV shows? Do you have a favorite? Please share! :)

The questions above are just suggestions to get your thoughts moving, you don't have to answer them all - or, really, any of them. Just tell your partner how you first "met" Stephen King, talk about favorites, etc. You know, fan talk. :) The letter about "fan talk" for Uncle Steve is the only requirement for the swap. Envelope art, tuck in's, etc, are up to the sender. This swap isn't profile based, so you can work on it ahead of time, if you wish.

Be sure to include the name of the swap and your swap-bot ID on the letter or in the envelope. Send on time! If you are going to be late, please communicate! When you receive your swap, please rate your partner.

I'm going to do a manual rating on this one, checking over profiles. If you have a rating under 4.98 please be sure you've addressed the reasons on your profile - comment about any 1's or 3's.

New swappers are welcome, but your profile needs to be well filled out. that means several sections of information. If I have any questions about your profile or ratings, I will send you a message - if you don't reply, you will be banned from the swap. Communication is key!

If you have any questions or comments Please PM me! as I don't often check comments, so I'll probably miss you question!

The quote in the picture is a bit hard to read. It says: "You can't deny laughter when it comes, it plops down in your favorite chair and stays as long as it wants. ~ Stephen King

I finished The Outsider a few nights ago. It was awesome!

user6937 06/ 1/2018 #

Thanks for letting me know about King's latest book. I'm 138 in line to get it at the library! But, they have 137 books, so it shouldn't take too long to get it.

I just finished the audio of The Outsider today. Wow! Will certainly need to revisit it before long!

CajunLady 06/ 1/2018 #

Have you read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy?
I read the Dark Tower series recently. Started last November and finally finished earlier this year. WOW that was a ride! I kept stopping to read the filler books (Insomnia, Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis). I probably shouldn't be posting this as I will likely repeat it for the swap!!

USAFwife 06/ 2/2018 #

Ha ha @cajunlady :) it's hard to not talk about his books though! Or at least for me :)
I think I've read them all too date. Loved the Mr Mercedes books! When I first read the Dark Tower books, I did the whole series in just about a week! I've gone back, over the years, & added in the supplement ones, like you mentioned. And now wr are listening to the whole thing w or kids! That's uncomfortable at times, but.... just started book 7.

I got my 15 yr old daughter into reading. She's been (painfully) slowly working through It. My 11 yr old son wants to read It also, but then he sees the size of the book and backs down a little. I read it the month or so before the movie came out last year. I read it years ago but figured I needed a refresher.

FYI for future reference, my partner will probably get a multi page typed letter!

I'm a HUGE Stephen King fan but can't join in at this time... :( ... maybe if the swap is repeated at a later date...

@CajunLady I couldn't get into the Dark Tower novels, but what do you mean "filler" books? I read those!

Are they all connected, or do you mean you read them while you were waiting for the next Dark Tower book?

USAFwife 06/ 5/2018 #

@user6937 many of king's books are connected to the Dark Tower series, some similar words or terms, sometimes similar characters. The Stand is another of those. They aren't part ofthe DT series, but interwoven.
For me, Dark Tower was hard to get into the first few times I triedit, but my husband kept encouragingme to try them. One I got through book 1, I could get into the books much easier & devoued them. But it was hard to get started. Listening to the audiobooks is a best different experience for me. Uncle Steve said in interviews that the audiobook is telling the story theway it's supposed to be told - you can't skip or skim, you have to listen to every word the author wrote & how they wrote it. I think that's true. So if you're up for it, try the audiobooks for the series. :)

@Kathmandu I've fire gotten several similar comments so I am planning to host this one again later on. I think it willbe fun a

CajunLady 06/ 5/2018 #

What USAFwife said. There are a few books that branch off from the DT series. I stopped in the middle of a couple of the books to read Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis and Insomnia. I know there are more connected, but those 3 were the ones I specifically remember reading.

user6937 06/ 5/2018 #

Interesting. I've never tried being read to (after grade 4, when I borrowed Oliver Twist right after the teacher read it to the class), but if it helps to "get it", maybe I'll give it a try. Instead of always reading a book in the car, my husband and I can listen to the same book.

Salem's Lot is the scariest book I read (I loved it) - it was years ago, but... I remember! I'm not giving anything up, this is on my profile.

We started listening to studios on long car rides, and those were kid friendly books (harry potter wasthe first) & I discovered that I really enjoyed the story rather than the radio, so I started using studios at home too. And it IS a great way to share a book.

MrsKytes 06/ 6/2018 #

Hi there. I am a newbie, so sorry if this is a stupid question! Is the Swap-bot ID our username?

USAFwife 06/ 6/2018 #

@MrsKytes yes, your swap ID is your user name. :) Welcome to swap-bot!

I have read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy. It was a little different than they "typical" SK book, but just as dementedly twisted. I really enjoyed them. I read The Dark Tower series in print, rhen went back and did the entire thing in audiobook with my hubby. We just finished listening to the entire series for a second time last fall. We didn't stop in them, but as soon as we finished we began to listen to the interconnected books. We are taking a break now though, and are about 2/3 of the way through Needful Things. This is my first time to hear it in an audio format, as I read the print version before. I haven't started The Outsider yet, but it is next up as soon as I finish reading the entire works of L. Frank Baum. I am getting close to finishing his works up, and am really looking forward to diving in The Outsider!

user6937 08/21/2018 #

The Outsider is great - I'm just about finished it!
