Description:

The first swap like this was so fun! So, here's another chance to receive an actual message-in-a-bottle in your mailbox.

Yes, I'd like for us to actually mail empty plastic water bottles with a pen pal letter or other message of at least 1-page inside the bottle. Don't pack it in a box. You glue the mailing label on the plastic bottle. Put the stamps on the bottle. Make sure the bottle is totally dry inside before using it.

I'm going to make this swap US-only and make another swap for international. That'll be even more experimental. The postage within the US was under $1 for most of us.

To be on the safe side, no one with 2 or more NO SENDS or a rating under 4.00 If you think you can explain your rating or no sends, please send me a PM. Sorry to have to set these rules, but it's no fun if someone doesn't receive something

Cant wait to see the mailmans face when i go to mail it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what is the general concensus on what the letter inside the bottle is? Ideas of what to put in the bottle to inspire me? I like this - it is really original. This is a great idea.

I no longer join these, after a few of my 'odd shaped' packages were "lost" by the postal service. They tell me that they often simply throw out packages or other things like bottles, after some incident in which a water-bottle company suggested everyone mail the empty bottle to the government in their area for some eco-thing, and they made rules about mailing odd shaped objects when they redid the postal rules after that. I hate getting a 1, or nasty mail, because the post office has an issue with how a package is shaped or mailed.

Oh, I totally understand about getting bad ratings when you have sent, but it might get lost by the P.O. Can we show a little more trust on this swap, if people say they've sent and it hasn't arrived? I am requiring high ratings and no more than 2 "no sends". Any more thoughts?

hmmmm.... if i weren't so swamped with swaps, I'd join, I have to think about it though. LOB, ty for your ratings! and ty you for just being you!

I'm new at this, so I don't have ratings yet. Would I be alloud to join this swap?

Hi, lob! I have a "thought", as you put it. I would love to join this swap again, but I would love to see more added to the swap requirements, such as adding little goodies in the bottle besides a letter. It could be stickers, beads, yarn, ribbon, light stuff. I say this because while I certainly chose to add stuff inside my bottle last round (it wasn't a requirement) to make it much more fun for my partner, I received from the person sending to me exactly what you required - a 1 pg. letter in a bottle! The "page" was from a small notepad, too. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if it were at least a notebook-sized paper or thereabouts. But it was a little note in a bottle. The poor note looked so lonely in there.

Anyway, my thought is to either increase the minimum to 2 pages or at least note around what size you have in mind for a "page" if you want to keep it to the 1 pg. minimum. A little 4x6 piece of paper is not my idea of a "letter" in a bottle. I felt like my partner was doing just what she had to do to get by.

Little extra goodies don't have to be a requirement per se, but perhaps an encouragement? :)

Thanks for listening!.... Karla

Well this sounds very fun, but I don't even have a rating yet, as I haven't participated on here yet! I really want to do this, as I've never sent anything strange through the mail, but have been inspired to do so.

Fay- I received your message in a bottle last Friday but am not sure if it is USA or International. So I am thanking you on both sites. It came thru ok and your "message" was great and unique. Thanks so much. Barb

Hi Julia- your message in a bottle was mailed out today. Have fun with it and I hope it gets there in one piece. Barb

Carmen, your bottle is in the mail. But--- my husband and grandchildren were asking so many ? I forgot the letter! It does have a note in there with some other stuff. Sorry.

Lynette(grinch) Got your bottle today. Its full of fun stuff. Feathers, tootsie rolls, a bracelet, gold package shred, floss and a really nice letter. Thankyou.

Lob, my partner "Amanda B." has a deleted profile. Who was her partner so that I may send my "letter in a bottle" to that person instead?

Thank you! Karla

Have noone to send my bottle to, so I am going to go ahead and mark this swap sent so that it's not showing up on my Swaps list. If the coordinator knows of anyone who didn't get one, I'll be happy to send to that person.
