Description:

I've been itching to make a quilt from vintage/thrifted sheets, like shown in this blog post or this one. Who wants to join me?

Of course, you can use vintage sheet fabric for lots of other projects too! How about these cute baskets or these awesome pillows or this cute skirt or this beautiful tablecloth? So many possibilities!!

In this swap, you'll have 3 partners. You'll take one sheet (twin size or larger), cut it into 4 equal pieces, send one piece to each of your partners and keep the last one for yourself. So when we're done, you'll have four different pieces to create with.

The specifics:

  • The sheet needs to be at least twin-sized (approximately 66 x 96 inches), so the pieces you send to your partners will be at least approximately 33x48 inches (about a yard of fabric). You can cut off the hems if you like.

  • Please only use FLAT sheets, as they will be in better condition than fitted ones.

  • You can use 100% cotton or a cotton/poly blend, but no flannel, jersey, satin, silk, etc.

  • Please only use sheets that are in good condition. Some fading and wear is to be expected, but carefully inspect the pieces you send out to make sure there are no holes, stains or very worn spots that would make them unusable.

  • The color/print is wide open (except no solid colors!), but obviously you should choose something you personally like! Let's try to stick to the 50's-60's-70's era. Check out the links above for some great examples. Please do not request specific prints or color schemes for yourself, since it will be impossible with multiple partners.

Participants:

  • This is international. I'm excited to see what cool linens there might be from around the world!

  • You must have at least a 4.8 rating. I will allow newbies, if you PM me ahead of time and have a filled-out profile.

  • I will angel if needed, but I sure hope it won't be!

I just bought 2 vintage sheets today, before I even logged in and saw this swap! Thank you for putting this swap together--it will be fun :)

I got sheets today at Value Village. I was surprised at how much they had to choose from. So of course i could not just get one. I am so excited for this swap.

I love Value Village... I have two nearby, and I try to hit at least one every week. I think their linens are a bit expensive (like 5 or 6 bucks each!), but somehow I still end up buying them! :-) I can't wait for warmer weather and garage sale season!

I'm very excited for this swap! I've already got my sheet all cut up and into envelopes ready to go!

I have enough sheets to put on every bed in town. I want more!!! (It's a small town!!) This is perfect. Don't cut the hem off. I open the hem out and have more fabric. I can get 8 Wal-Mart type resuable bags (mine are larger) from one full size sheet if you open out the top hem.

Great idea! I'm looking forward to this.

Two more days! I'm so pleased to have such a great turnout for my first swap! I hope everyone has fun hunting for the perfect sheet, and that you all get great fabrics in return. I have a feeling I'll be hosting more swaps like this in the future, so PM me if you have any suggestions for how it might be improved. And if you post pictures or blog about your finished project, please let me know so I can include a link in the next swap!

Value Village in NC is amazing. They had these clear gallon garbage bags with with fabric for $3.50 - although I haven't seem many lately. Our sheets are between $1.50 - $2.50 and sometimes it includes pillow cases or a flat sheet
