Description:

I came across this idea from the Treasure Books You Tube channel. I have never really understood how to do book binding before but after watching Natasja's tutorial I would like to give this a try.

Natasja shows us a form of book binding called Stab Binding which has it's origins in Japan. Using a sewing needle and embroidery thread (floss) we will sew single sheets of paper together by hand, to make a small simple (mini) book.

Here are the basics:

  • There needs to clearly be a front and back page.

  • At least 3 stitches. More stitches are allowed but a minimum of 3.

  • A minimum of 8 single pages. With cover and back a total of 10 . The pages can all be different in size. I'm thinking around 5 1/2 x4 inches like Natasja uses. (13.9 x 10.1 cm.) Roughly! It doesn't have to be exact. Let's keep it small and flat. You can go bigger, you can do more pages, but that will mean more postage. It's up to you. But the minimum is required. A small book that fits into a standard size envelope (C6) is fine.

Please decorate the front and back pages of the book. The theme is up to the sender. Some ideas that might help: Vintage, Japanese, Nature, Fall or have a look at your partner's profile for inspiration. The pages inside we will leave empty so that way our partner can use the book to write in if they'd like to.

The tutorial is here

This is the first time I am hosting this kind of swap. If you have questions or comments or if I am not clear, feel free to give me feedback or correction. I believe that the video explains it really well.

Remember to put your name and the name of this swap on or in the lightly decorated envelope.

I hope you'll join! Have fun!
