Well, recently I came accross these very cute little dolls called string dolls or string voodoo dolls. I bought myself one, but thought they must be very easy to make, its just wrapping some string in a pattern!! So I looked it up and, right enough, there are lots of patterns for them on the internet! The aim of this swap is to help us all learn to make them!! As this is the first swap, you can make a very simple string doll. Some of them you can buy are very adventurous and decorated a lot. You should try to decorate yours a little bit, but it doesn't have to be terribly intricate! There are lots of ideas here You will have one partner and make them on string doll. As these are very small things, I will make this swap international! The pattern is here (part 1) and here (part 2) I have just made my first ever one, it's not perfect by any means! You can see a picture here No newbies are welcome in this swap. I have had too much trouble with newbies in the past, and there are plenty of other swaps open for newbies at the moment! You must have a rating of at least 4.80 to join, and no unexplained no-sends in the last 6 months. If I think there's something fishy, I will delete you from the swap at my discresion! I don't like removing people, but I want this to be a good swap and for everyone to receive their items!! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me!!

I'm going to Watch this until I'm sure I can make one. So far I haven't found a good tutorial, so perhaps you can clear up one question, Mojo ... is the body made entirely with string or is there something like pipecleaners inside the arms and legs?

This little doll is so cute!!! The tutorials I have found though say that the yarn is wrapped around cardboard to create the body. Here's one. Oh wait....now I see this one isn't exactly what you're talking about. Sorry about that, lol. Isn't she adorable though??? Looks like the cardboard is only used to shape the yarn and then is removed. Guess I'm gonna have to check this out some more before joining, lol.

Mojo, do we have to use your tutorial or can we do a different kind of yarn doll like the one in the tutorial that bettlow09 has posted, which is a quite different technique and look?

Swan, this swap is really for the type of string dolls I have posted, as that's what your partner will be expecting... but if you contact your partner and they say its ok then of course you can!

I received my string doll from @eadaoin today. She is so adorable!!!! I think I'll be getting hooked on making these little dolls:))) Hope we do this again:)))

Oh....sorry:( I didn't mention all the extra goodies she sent:)) Gosh....she sent such a wonderful package of goodies....everything is just wonderful!!! Love the reusable shopping bag. I'd love to get hold of that pattern:))

Hi! I've made lots of it already...I use my fingers in interlocking and intertwining the yarn on creating the base of the doll.
