Description:

I fell in love with writing 100-word stories, thanks to an inspiring English teacher in high school. I thought it could be a fun swap.

  1. Grab a postcard
  2. Write an 100-word story on the postcard using the prompt: "Being at the wrong place at the wrong time." I would recommend writing it on Word Counter or on Google Docs/Word, so you don't have to continously keep track of your word count.
  3. Send your postcard (naked) to your partner

PROMPT: Being at the wrong place at the wrong time

THAT'S ALL!

Feel free to keep reading below to learn how 100-word stories rose to popularity (OPTIONAL READING FROM THIS POINT ON):

I was surprised to learn that the popularity of 100-word stories only emerged within the past decade. Grant Faulkner, the executive director of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), played a pivotal role in popularizing the 100-word story. Inspired by Paul Strohm's tales in "Eleven Eleven" Magazine, Faulkner created a magazine named "100-Word Story, which publishes--you guessed it--100-word stories. His approach aligns with Walter Benjamin's philosophy: "keep a story free from an explanation."

I would love to keep doing these swaps, so maybe if we get enough practice, then we could submit some to his magazine! (Submissions are open from Dec 1-8 if you want to get a head start!)

PS This is my first swap, so if you have any suggestions, then feel free to reach out.

Are we writing the 100 word story on the postcard and mailing that to our partner?

Yes! Thanks for asking. I have updated the description. Hopefully, that is more clear
