The faire is coming to town! Come one, come all but don't ignore the call!

Note: Please read over this swap carefully, it's not complicated I just like to explain everything with as much detail as I can, but make sure you read all the criteria before signing up.

This is the third in what will be a series of swaps based on the old traveling faires. Whether gypsies, a troupe of entertainers or players, whatever names they were called by, they would set up tents just on the outskirts of town and sell their wares, read fortunes, play instruments, and entertain! They would also sell things for the children, potions to cure aliments, weapons, jewelry and so much more. Just a simple faire but something new and exciting nonetheless!

After good mead and good songs you realise that you have worked up an appetite from all that dancing and clapping and singing along! Then as if on queue, the scent of freshly baked breads and roasted meats reaches your nose! Ah, divine cooking! Making your way to the tents and tables set up for dining, you go through your coin purse getting out enough gold to feed your enormous hunger, hoping you have enough gold left for the wine to go with all that food!

First of all, for this swap, you will send your partner three "medieval themed" recipes! You can do a little research and send some authentic ones, (it doesn't matter if the ingredients for authentic ones are still available or not, just to have some would be a gem!) or you can send some more recent dishes that are faire inspired but more practical for cooking today, such as meat pies, different ways to roast various meats, maybe a recipe for mead or wine as well! If it is something they would have served back then, then it is good for this swap. Just please don't send a recipe for pasta salad or mac-n-cheese...you get the idea.

Second, please send one small packet of fresh dried herbs or spices (any kind is ok, maybe it is one that is used in your recipe, but it doesn't have to be) from your local Farm and Art Market, or natural food store, if you grow your own that would be awesome too! If you do not grow fresh herbs that you can dry or do not have access to a local market or natural food store, then a big box type store would be fine to purchase the herbs as I do not expect someone to drive 30 miles to the nearest market, etc. but please try to send more freshly dried/organic herbs first if you have access to them.

And for the last item, I will leave a senders choice. Make or buy something that represents cooking and feasting to you. It could be an artistic representation like a set of ATC's or inchies, a matchbox or a dotee of a cooking wench with apron and all. Or it could be a more literal translation of "I found these amazing kitchen towels." or potholders or napkin rings, etc. If you buy something, try to keep it between $5-$10. Or you can blend both ideas and crochet or knit some amazing kitchen towels, the possibilities are endless! Please send something you would truly love receiving.

This is a group swap so everyone should be trustworthy and should have the minimum rating of 4.9, which is the group requirement. I will say this now - if you flake on a group swap you will be dropped from the group. Also, if you are going to be late even by a day please pm your partner to let them know it's just common courtesy...I understand life happens!

i am so def. in, my husband is a chef.and i also cook it up a bit.more of a foodie though....i use a old world recipe in my postpartum doula care so i am excited to share it.what a fun swap!!

I have joined and just wanted to say I would prefer veggiterian recipes as I don't eat ant meat but seafood but if you can't find ones that work with my diet no biggie I will enjoy them for historical value if nothing else :D

wow, i was just putting together my recipes and had such a good time my husband and i will make the enitre dinner tommorrow for the family!!!

now i am off to the garden and going to pick some lemonbalm for my partner( lucky her, we have a dehydrator) so i will be able to send some "fresh" from the garden, and i will also now enjoy a cup myself!!!

this was a really great swap!

only thing left to do is think something u for the kitchen "gift".perhaps.no, i wont ruin the suprise TOTALLY, lol

ok, my sender-partner just asked if i ddont mind dry herbs, of course i dont.but it got me to thinking.....by "fresh" do you mean still moist, pardon my ignorance....i would suspect they would mold on the way........so i dryed mine to send in the dehydrator as i said at under 95 degrees celcius, so technically they are consider "live" because enzymes are still active....

anyway whats everyone else sending???

I'm wondering abt the herbs too because I'm sending to Belgium. By the time I got there they will be wilted. In the US I could send priority mail and they should be okay but I don't think they'll make it international

Naughty: It's quite okay with me :)

About the herbs... Fresh herbs would probably rot if I send them from Denmark, so I'm cheating a bit, I'm going to send some of our homemade medieval herb salt instead... There are herbs in the salt, and well they where fresh when they where put in ;) Hope it counts.

OMG, you guys I am so sorry about the fresh herb mix up! Of course I mean more like fresh dried herbs...like dried herbs they would sell at a farm and art market or natural food store, you know the kind you have to weigh , put into a packet and then purchase, like they do at my natural food market here. Sooo sorry everyone! I just meant, try to find something more fresh and organic than say the McCormick spices at Wal-Mart. I will edit the swap to reflect this too!

I should also mention that spices are ok to send as well, I feel bad for not stating such earlier and I will add it to the swap too and make an announcement. I just wanted people to send herbs/spices their partners could cook with, perhaps even for one of the recipes. Sorry for not being clearer about that.
