Just like the title says... a vintage postcard swap!

What do I consider vintage? This is limited to postcards made in the 1970s or earlier.

You will have 3 partners and will send 1 vintage card to each partner. These postcards should be written on by you and sent via post with a stamp! (Yay to postmarks!) This swap is open to international swappers (postmarks from outside your country... double yay!)

Feel free to write any type of message on the card... but try to get a little creative. Make up a quick three sentence story about how you visited this scenic overlook in 1945 before you were even born! Whatever you wish!!

Please contact me with any questions.

Newbies with a full profile are welcome. Please swappers have a 4.5 rating or higher, and limited no-sends (i understand we all make errors), please just contact me if this is the case.

Thanks and happy swapping!

Are reproduction Postcards acceptable?

nicole 05/26/2007 #

No, this is for actual vintage postcards only.

lkforman 05/26/2007 #

So we can't make them, we have to actual find a way to purchase a vintage card? Hmm..

Rosearamma 05/27/2007 #

Vintage postcards can often be found at antique store/malls. They usually have boxes full of "paper" of all sorts. There are quite the treasures to be found if you take a few minutes and dig.

Exactly Rosearamma. I get most of my vintage cards in lots on ebay. I just recently picked up about 80 cards for about $13 including shipping, with the vast majority being unused.

This swap is for vintage cards, just like the description says.. 1970s or earlier only.

I hit an antiques store last week -- this was a great excuse -- and found an amazing array of PCs, both blank and written on, from all over the country. I picked up some mail-worthy ones from the 60s-70s, but the best are the ones from the 1915-1920 era. I'd never mail them tho. Too fragile. I have a hard time not buying all of the really old ones... I like to make up stories about the people who sent and received them. I have the same problem with old photographs; I always feel sad that these people are now anonymous and have no way to tell their story.

Yes, I'm a bit "teched," as my partner so endearlingly puts it.

=)

Count me in on this one, please. A good reason to make a trip to an antiques fair!

nicole 06/ 8/2007 #

Don't get me in trouble with your significant others for dragging them out to antique malls and flea markets!!! ;)

MAT 06/14/2007 #

Hey we dont need help getting in trouble. I do a very good job all by myself! LOL

niecedenise 06/14/2007 #

That wasnt supposed to be from Mildred, it was me. I am on vacation at her house and forgot to sign her off before I started checking my swaps. Sorry

Rhianna 06/19/2007 #

I just searched through all of my vintage postcards for blank ones, and while the blank ones are clearly dated in the sense that the clothing, cars, etc. on them are from decades ago, I can't honestly confirm that they're from the 70's or earlier. What are your thoughts on that? Are they still eligible?

TaraInColorado 06/25/2007 #

I sort of thought the same thing,Rhianna--even though I know it's "older than now" I can't when something was made unless it's got a date on it...and it was usually a date from a postmark!

nicole 06/25/2007 #

Check for copyright dates and such... that could give it away.

SummerLion 06/26/2007 #

Vintage PCs on the way from Alaska to Billie Jo, tara_masu and Rhianna.

(A few helpful hints: Most don't have a copyright date. One way to tell is to look at the size: Old ones are usually smaller than today's. Also, look at the typefaces used for the captions. Sometimes they'll indicate the postage amount in the spot where the stamp goes. The paper might be faded, cracked or yellowed. And they often use proprietary printing processes like "Plastichrome" or "Curteichcolor.")
