Round One of our Journal Quilt Squares Swap

This First Round will have more time to complete than some of the future rounds.

Pre-Swap Requirements

  • You will post some type of photo of yourself into the Flickr Group created for this project. (If you do not have a Flickr and do NOT wish to create one, you can email me the pic, and I will list it for you). I would like the photos to be one of you when you were small. This could include baby photos or you as a child. If you do not have one of you as a small child, than older will be acceptable. You will not be allowed to join this round if you do not have a photo posted by the time partners are assigned as it won't be fair to your partner. This Flickr group IS private, so please don't be worried about others accessing your picture!

Swap Requirements

  • You will find your partners picture in the Flickr Group. You can print this out on paper, fabric, whatever type of medium YOU choose to use the picture for your Quilt Block/Quiltie. Size of picture is up to you also.
  • You will create ONE (1) Journal Quilt Block/Quiltie for your partner with the focal point being thier picture.
  • The size of your Journal Quilt Block/Quiltie will be 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" (21.59 cm x 21.59 cm)
  • The picture (signing the block and the size of block) are the only requirements of this first round. All other design aspects are up to you, the creator. (see more info at the bottom)
  • The Journal Quilt Block/Quiltie will have a front, some type of batting in the middle, and a backing.
  • You will sign your quilt with your Real Name and your Swap Bot name on the front of the Block/Quiltie - you can embroider, use fabric pen, whatever you choose to use, just make sure your name is on it!
  • You will sew around the edge of the Block/Quiltie - however it should be just a simple stitch around the outer edge - approx. 1/4" (so that your partner can finish it however they wish).
  • ONE (1) partner = ONE (1) Block/Quiltie.
  • Yes, it will possibly be International.

Here is a link that will hopefully help you out!

How to make a Quiltie

You may hand sew, machine sew, etc. You can glue things on, write on it, use paper embellishments, other types of embellishments, etc.

Any questions please feel free to ask!! If anything is not clear..please ask!!

A Link with paper embellishments

Yet another picture

If you do a Google Image search for "Quiltie" you can find lots and lots more pics!

Another thought! I just read somewhere (cannot for the life of me find the site NOW!) that if you don't have access to batting, you could also use flannel fabric or felt in between your front and back!

Thanks so much for setting this up. I don't have a flickr account or even know how to go about setting it up. But I will research it and hopefully figure it out before partners are assigned. I may be needing help. :)

Hi,

Just joined :) trying to join the flickr group , but it says the page is private (which i understand it is) but it doesn't give me the option to send a request to join. what is the group called or how do i request to join. Thanks,

MamaD 08/22/2009 #

Why don't you pm me your flickr name and I'll try to send you a join request?

wytch6 08/22/2009 #

Oh Drat!! I have very few photos of myself and they are well hidden. I would rather have a page of my granddaughter or one of my kids when they were young, than my ugly mug on a page. Is this against the rules?

MamaD 08/24/2009 #

Although I highly doubt that you have an "ugly mug"...YES, sweetie, that is fine!!

Also, please everyone don't forget you WILL need to add me as a contact on your flickr, so that I can send you a group join so that you can upload your picture!

I have used both flannel and felt for the inside of quilties. Sometimes even peltex which is a thick stiff interfacing.
