Description:

Cheap, quick, easy, steal my music MP3 CD swap.

If you aren't familiar with transferring your music to WMA/MP3 (compressed) format, choose burn data instead of audio CD. (I use windows media player). Burn onto a CD or DVD. This is a disc created to add music files to your computer. Not a disc to play on the car or home CD player.

Pile an earload and then some of your music collection to share with 3 partners. Music/album/artist list optional though appreciated.

Small print...

Swappers with 3 completed swaps welcome. No recent or unexplained no-sends. I reserve the right to ban. Thoughtful, reliable swappers who have the courtesy and time to follow thru only.

Please be kind and include your swapbot username and the name of the swap in your package.

No Flakers! I'm not angeling. Swap at your own risk! (I will carefully choose who we swap with, as usual to lesson the chances of a disappointing swap experience).

Important points...

Be my guest! Come join the fun! Be a swap friend! Have fun!

Is there a minimum number of songs?

pxlmusic 11/ 2/2009 #

just fill the disc up

myrrhmaid 11/ 2/2009 #

Yes! Good idea! Fill it as fat as it will go! :))

poeticpaper 11/ 3/2009 #

approx. how many mp3 will fit on 1 cd?

pxlmusic 11/ 5/2009 #

for those interested, if it is ok -- i'd rather send a DVD, as they have roughly 6x more space than a regular CD.

i also say this because i generally encode my MP3s at least at 192k, so they can take some fair space.

lastly, i don't say DVDs because i want to show anyone up, or try to change the rules of the swap.

just wanted to throw that out there :)

myrrhmaid 11/ 5/2009 #

Thanks for the info! I didn't know that! Learn something new everyday! I'm going to try it!

Jesshens1125 11/ 5/2009 #

Wait, if you do it on a DVD, can you still play it on like a CD player? I know my computer, my car, and my sterio are all MP3 compatible, but what about with DVDs? This is getting complicated...

myrrhmaid 11/ 5/2009 #

I'll make one up and try it out.

myrrhmaid 11/ 6/2009 #

O.K. I got the whole skinny. The MP3 format is the smallest so it fits the most music. The WMA files are a little bigger and better quality so not as many fit but that's o.k.. Both formats are acceptable as this is a disc to load music onto your computer-not something to play in a cd player. As far as the type of discs go, if you use a DVD disc it will hold more music but a regular CD is acceptable too. I was able to get 92 items, 6.1 hours of music on one disc! Over 100 albums!

crescendo 11/ 6/2009 #

I need to try this to make sure I know how to do it before I sign up, but I would love to join. OK, running off to see how to do this. I know in the past when I have looked at the size of my MP3 files they are no smaller than my AAC files (iTunes), so I never really understood how you could get more MP3s on a disk than AAC files from iTunes. Since iTunes is a total POS (don't get me started), I assume I should do the copy to CD/DVD using the Windows file system, not from iTunes? Ok, I will stop blathering and go try it and hope I get into the swap in time!

myrrhmaid 11/ 6/2009 #

I'm going to extend the sign-up a couple days. :))

It totally depends on your player. I do know there are some Car ones out there that can, bbuutt.. they usually cost more, so you'd have to check that out and see if yours can.

One great program (the one that I use) is called "CD Burner XP Pro 3" and was free (but only works in windows XP). I also use MediaMonkey to burn music cd's. (non mp3).

I too hate itunes, and yes there is supposed to be a way to burn files directly to cd/dvd using the windows file system, but even I haven't figure that one out yet :P

myrrhmaid 11/12/2009 #

Thanks, Ziggy!

pxlmusic 11/12/2009 #

to whomever i should be sending, let me know what format and what medium (CD or DVD)

also, i just realized that gmail was trashing my emails from his site into my spam folder (now corrected)

if i don't respond, drop me an email: pxlent@gmail.com

It is unclear to me whether or not a data disk written from iTunes on Windows machine will be readable on a Mac, and vice-versa? In the case where our partner has Mac and other has PC, does the disk need to be written in MP3 format, anybody know? Are any of you joining using a Mac?

myrrhmaid 11/13/2009 #

I don't know crescendo. I'm using a PC. Sorry I'm no help!

crescendo 11/13/2009 #

ok, I just got 900+ songs on a DVD, whoa nelly

myrrhmaid 11/13/2009 #

I know it's amazing how many fit! I thought I would be able to do an artist list but no way! I listed about 10 then said and many, many more!

pxlmusic 11/14/2009 #

@crescendo mac or pc, it shouldn't matter. the mp3 format is universal and totally independent of any operating system.

zigg13pra 11/14/2009 #

If you burn a disc from itunes (with the itunes format) I think the receiver has to have itunes to read it (I personally do not have itunes nor will I install it). Mp3's are readable by both mac, windows, and linux (I also run linux). Wma may not be readable by all though since it is a windows music format.

rainbowsweetstitch 11/14/2009 #

Not if you burn the CD with MP3 format like people have said before. You can make a choice to burn your Itunes music into MP3 format.

zigg13pra 11/14/2009 #

Good to know, like I said, I dont use itunes :P

myrrhmaid 11/17/2009 #

Yes, thanks for letting us know! I don't have itunes either.

pxlmusic 12/ 3/2009 #

yeah, zigg's a linux dork ;)

pxlmusic 12/ 3/2009 #

i used itunes to ID3 tag all the stuff...it should show up and with album art in many of them

myrrhmaid 12/ 4/2009 #

I have some extra discs made up if someone wants to swap-send me a PM.

myrrhmaid 12/13/2009 #

It looks like one of our participants flaked. Feel free to find an angel. Be sure and rate accordingly.
