Description:

I have gotten quite addicted to folding and cutting paper, a craft known by many names in many countries. It is kirigami in Japan, scherenschnitte in Europe, the popular silhouette cutting before the invention of cameras, and many more. All styles of hand paper cutting are welcome for this swap! (No die cutting for this one...)

Make 1 ATC for each of your 2 partners, each featuring a hand-cut paper design you made yourself. Beginners to paper cutting are welcome, but please send your partner a card of a quality you would be happy to receive. ATCs must be standard size.

Rating of at least 4.9 to participate, with no recent unexplained 1s or 3s. You must have been rated on at least 5 mailed swaps and have a well filled out profile. I will ban those with late swaps, so be sure to catch up before joining!

I love the theme of this, but am not sure I'd have sufficient time for this one. I'm watching and if things seem like they're freeing up a bit I'll join!

Sounds lovely but not sure I understand how to do it. Is there a link I could look at, please?

Here's a wikipedia link with some cool info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirigami

And another:

It is a very addictive craft!

And don't worry, PDX, I will probably end up hosting more of these! I have discovered that I love papercut ATCs!

this one explains kirigami too.

Thanks for the added link! I love it.

And I just wanted to add, the cards do not need to be 3-D. Kirigami and paper cutting could also be silhouettes, snowflake style designs, and scherenschnitte, not just pop-up figures.

I haven't yet got 5 mail swaps completed but would love to try this next time around - I be sure to practice before then :) I have always thought the scherenschnitte to be so beautiful.
