Description:

You will have 1 partner for this swap.

You will need 8 teas for this swap.

Being an avid repurposer and also in the middle of making a tea wallet for another swap I am hosting I got this idea while looking at my decorative envies that I usually send my teas in. They are 3 5/8 x 6 1/2 inches in size and the flaps have patterns on them, so I took one stuck the flap inside it and then folded it in half like a book and placed a closed tea package on one end and it fit perfect...so then I figured wouldn't it be cool to take a few and attach them like a book but with slots to hold the tea.

So for this swap you will need four envies to make your tea book. I sewed mine together down the middle on my sewing machine and added some glue to the "spine" on the thread but you can glue them or staple them together. If you don't have envies with deocrative flaps then you will have to decorate the flaps with markers or colored pencils or something that will not be bulky.

Once you have all of them put together like a little book you will need to decorate the front and back of the book...again this can be done with colored pencils, pens, markers, stickers, nothing too bulky and if you use glitter do not use loose glitter please use glitter pens as those do not flake off when dry. You can even cover it in fabric or felt or decoupage it.

The inside slots can either be left plain (white) or you can deocrate these too, put words on them, your partners name, be unique.

You can recycle junk mail envies for this swap as well.

Remember that this is a simple swap and it's suppose to look repurposed/recycled/upcycled so it does not have to look professional or perfect.

UPDATE: The one here in the pic is the one I am working on. I didn't take a picture of it closed up because I don't want to ruin the surprise for my partner but hopefully this will give you and idea of what I am talking about of how to put it together. I added a closure but you don't have to.

Now after your tea book is all put together and decorated you will need to put one tea into each slot of the book. You will need 8 teas and I suggest either 1 different each or at least 2 of each flavor...do not send 8 of all the same or 4 of all the same. The teas will give the book it's bulk this is why I am asking you not to use anything bulky for the inside decoration of the book.

The turnaround time on this swap should be quick as this can be done in few hours tops.

Sender choice but please check to make sure your partner does not have allergies or really dislikes a certain type of tea.

NO LOOSE LEAF for this swap.

International so please take note of shipping prices and shipping time.

No Australia as they have herb/tea restrictions.

Newbies welcomed with full filled out profiles, I always check.

No ratings under 4.5, No recent 3s or 1s within the last month without a good reason.....YOU MUST CONTACT ME TO LET ME KNOW.

I do ban people I feel do not fit the swap requirements so don't be offended if I do this to you.

I ALMOST FORGOT: You will also need to put a note into each slot with the tea either stating why you like it, where you got, a poem or anything sweet and nice.

Are there any pictures we could see, as an example?

pandessa 04/11/2010 #

I would also like to see a pic, I am more of a visual person.

I searched all over the net and couldn't find one that looked like what I have explained here....I could take a pic of the one I put together (it's not fully done but enough to get an idea) but then it would not really be a surprise for my partner.

It got late as I was searching so let me see if there is anything I can find that looks kinda like it.

Believe me I totally understand I too am a visual learner.

ok so the picture is not the best but I think it should be able to give you and idea of how to make it and what it should look like more or less. All the ones on the net I found were the ones that have slots going in the direction from the side inside of the top like with the envelopes.

I took the picture this way as to not ruin the surprise for my partner, it is still a work in progress.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Ooh! Well the picture does help a lot! This is such a cute idea, it really sounds like fun.

I am really pleased with the way my tea book came out. Now all it needs is the teas and my writing on the little cards I made for the slots.

two more days (not counting today) to sign up.

thought there would be more interest

I'm sure people will join tomorrow (me included - I've got something to post tomorrow before I sign up) I'm really looking forward to making my little tea book!! :D

Lanie 04/15/2010 #

I figured that too...I noticed some people usually wait till the last day to sign up.

It was really fun making my tea book, soo much so I'm thinking of making some for my etsy reduce shop.
