Seven Blank Envelopes or The Swap Whose Coordinator Sucks At Naming Things

I saw a swap like this a month or two back, but unfortunately I didn't have the postage to give it a go, so after checking the listings, when I didn't see another swap like it, I figured it would be alright if I started another one? I especially liked the idea of this swap as I have anxiety which has been really bad in the past and these are the things that have helped me get through the rough patches. So I also figured that, if it helped me out, maybe I could help somebody too.

Here's how the swap works.

You're going to have seven envelopes. Each envelope should be small enough to fit in a purse or an organizer and should contain a notecard with a quote in it or a photo or a comic strip. It can anything from a postcard to a bookmark to a magazine advertisement. As long as it's something funny or inspirational, something that will make your partner smile or laugh.

Seal the seven envelopes and leave them unmarked. Enclose them in a larger envelope with your swap information and send them out to your partner.

Keep the envelopes you receive with you and when you're having a bad day or you're really stressed out, or you're on the brink of an anxiety attack and you just need something to break the tension so you can have the time to breathe and work through it, pull one of them out.

It's a simple, easy swap, so I don't really expect any flakers, but if you do flaked on, let me know and I'll angel it for you. Newbies are welcome with a filled out profile. Ratings of 4.9 or better, please. I'll be checking profiles. Postage should be relatively cheap on this, so I'll leave it international for now.

I'd love to make this a series of swap if there are people who join that do enjoy or are helped at all by the swap. Any other questions or comments, just let me know.

Just so I'm clear, it will be 14 envelopes total? Seven to each swap partner?

MamaBear 05/ 5/2010 #

Just to be sure: is it okay if the 7 envelopes are handmade?

This sounds like the perfect "happy mail". Hopefully I don't get flaked on. This seems to happen to me with the simple swaps and I just started.

I've never seen a swap like this. Great job, kaytd89!!! Going on my "watchlist". We all need encouragement. :)

:) Yup, Seven envelopes to two partners, so fourteen in total. And handmade envelopes are absolutely okay!

Can we make the envelopes pretty? Decorate them in some way? Also how do we rate for this? Give a rating as soon as the package arrives or wait till we have opened all 7? I would think as soon as the packeage arrives but I'm not sure if that's what you want us to do. Great idea by the way!

I think decorating the envelopes would be fine, as long it doesn't identify what's inside in the envelope. And definitely rate when you receive the package!

On my watch list right now. This sounds like something one could do for a friend who might be going through a rough time. I will make my envelopes, no hints as to the contents, though.....

I'm new to Swapbot (but not to swapping), and I just joined. I'm REALLY excited for this swap and have a few good ideas!

Is it okay to leave a tiny hint so they open the envelope that will suit their current mood.

kaytd89 05/19/2010 #

Hmm... that's actually a good question. XD well, the main idea is just to leave the envelope blank (outside of decorations, that is) so that the contents are a surprise, but as long as you don't actually reveal anything about the contents, something like color coding the envelopes or some kind of decoration or stamping them in relation to your partner's mood is okay. Hopefully, I'm doing a good job with this swap! It's my first time coordinating and answering questions/making rules, so.....

You're doing an excellent job, @katyd89 Nice and clear and available for responses. I notice these things. ;)

I'm going to consider the mood hints too. Great idea. I, too, wondered about that. But I might just leave them uniformly blank after all. O, decisions.
