Handmade Christmas Ornament Swap

Yes l love to do a christmas ornament swap, we had that planned on my own group as well. And you are right crafters always think a couple months ahead. Thanks.

I am new to swapping on Swap-bot but not new to Swapping! This is a great swap to introduce myself to the swap community here on swap-bot and I certainly look forward to creating Christmas Ornaments that can be treasured for years to come. I love swapping and have made lots of great friends. Thanks for the opportunity!

the system only assigns us (gives us the info) for 3 partners if thats what the coordinator set up, but I am sure your 3 partners wouldn't mind getting 2 each instead of 1 :) I know I would love it.

I would like to state a warning about a taker who's willing to be part of this swap: Anita - please check her ratings , she's participated in some swaps and NEVER sent anything. If by any chance I get her as partner to send to, I will not be doing it, and suggest you do the same. Takes have to be BANNED before the swap initial date. I'm not spending huge amounts of money on shipping for takers.

Or you could, theoretically, create another swap-bot account for yourself and sign up with two accounts. Then you would send out three for each and get back three for each. Don't know how legal this is according to swap-bot and I know I won't be attempting it because I have enough on my plate right now without adding more!

I'll just stick to three for now , I was in another forum ornament swap and did 42 . Took me a while to get them done , but it was fun and interesting to get so many different handmade ornaments.

Tip :If you have to send a package to Europe please wright the 7 with an extra line in the middle . Offently postmen take the overseas 7 for a 1 !

Little question : If possible can you put real stamps on the packages ? Not those ugly white postoffice things :o))) I know many stamp collectors overhere and real stamps are very rarely this days .

I was wondering if we should contact our swap partners and ask them what kind of tree decor they like so we can tailor the ornament to their liking.

Or maybe we could post on here or on our profile what kind of themes or colors we'd prefer.

I know my friends always enjoy the ornaments I make for them even more if it goes with the theme that they have. Also, one friend of mine doesn't celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday, so she can't use angels and similar stuff-her church doesn't celebrate the birth of Christ(they just celebrate his resurrection)so Christmas for them is more like a winter celebration.

What do yall think?

speaking for myself, although I think it's a good suggestion, I think it comes a little too late at this time Chatdurouge, at least for me since I'm already working on this for a while ...

i mean, one thing it's some sort of personalizing for your partners, other is making at this time by-request-ornaments for 3 partner or even for one. But also the primary idea of this swap is to have fun in making something xmasly for someone else, with lot of TLC right? :) But I've chosen to go for more winterly-xmas ornaments rather than religious-related from the start.

the "probably" is already in case the ornaments don't fit the partners choice of decor this year. I mean, for instance I haven't decided which I will use this year myself, I was going for something traditional with wood ornaments but then yesterday I've found these cute, wonderful, colorful, really modern ornaments with everything to go with home decor that I'm very tempted to get :D

but this is just my opinion of course, also a way of saying that if the great suggestion (that i think it's really great) is to be taken into consideration when making the ornaments, as I've said it's a little too late for me and therefore I'll have to apologise to my soon-to-be partners ;)

If my future swap partner hasn't started already and reads this before they do then I'd like to request none-religous items. We celebrate yule in our house rather than christmas so it's more of a seasonal celebration than a religous one. So please no angels/nativity items if possible!

I have to apologize to my soon-to-be partners and to the organizer of this swap but I've got a suden peak of workload demand, unfortunatelly will have to drop this one as I cannot compromise to send packages on time :( and it's unfair to others. I wouldn't normally be this bitchy, but I keep getting this woman as a partner, and it's irritating me. The user "Crunch" is the same woman as "Vive". I sent her two packages for the past candy swaps, and she owes me two packages (under my other nicknames) for the same candy swaps, and will not even return my polite e-mails asking if they have been sent. I signed up for this swap under three nicknames for a total of nine partners, and got her as a partner twice. It only makes sense to assume that she is a taker, not a swapper, so, I am not sending her any ornaments. I am sorry to do this, but I'm not going to waste my time and efforts on someone who doesn't give anything to anyone else in return. I'm not saying that anyone else should follow my lead, I'm just giving everyone a heads up. I will, of course, still be sending ornaments to all my other partners :-)

After sleeping on it, I have realized that I was too hasty in posting my last message. Just because she is a jerk, doesn't mean I have to be. I will send her the ornaments as I should. There, I feel better now!

There's the true spirit of the holidays! I know what you mean though... hopefully she (and others) realize it's very wrong to take thinks and not GIVE back. Christmas time brings out the best in some people so we can only hope, right?

I have received some very nice and positive comments from other swappers, some even offering to send extra ornaments to me or Crunch's partners. What a great bunch of people you all are! Thank you!

Anyway, I sent out the ornament to Crunch, and felt good about it, until she finally responded to one of my e-mails. She said that she had taken on too many swaps as Vive, and she regreted it, so she signed up for a new account as Crunch to "start a new". How nice! Instead of going back and sending out the packages she owes people, she just starts all over? And the best part about her e-mail was the name that appears as the sender - "Bite Me". Obviously a very classy person.

I do hope that she does send out ornaments to her partners, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

i know all of this has made me wonder if I want to participate in the future. Its really made my holiday cheer wane. I have seen plenty so I will no longer be reading any of the comments. I plan to think really hard before I sign up again. I have already committed myself to this swap and of course I will send my ornament, its not their fault I feel so lousy.

There are always people who will do their best to spoil things for others and abuse their good nature but you really can't let them ruin it for you, I've had a couple of no-sends lately which is disheartening but so far they've been outweighed by the things I have recieved.

What I find more annoying in a way is when you spend time and effort on a package and then don't get so much of a thank you in return, I've done about 6 or 7 swaps so far and only recieved one feedback!

Maybe organisers should start emailing each swapper individually to gauge wether they will be a taker or not. There certainly needs to be more supervision when it comes to people with a score of 1. My last no-send had three previous no-sends...Why did the organiser allow her to participate?

I have to agree with you about not receiving a "thanks"! I am fine if it just via the ratings, and I have been fairly lucky there... I think only one or two people have not rated me so far. But I was unlucky enough to get into a swap organized by vive, and I guess I was her recipient, as I never received a package, or a reply to my multiple emails. I did write to swap-bot and ask them not to allow people with a rating below 3 to organize a swap, when it is pretty evident that they are not sending. They said they will consider it. I always send a little extra something that is not required by the swap, think a lot about the person I am sending to.. so I do get disappointed at times when it comes to the return package. So this is my last swap before Christmas. I need a break!

Hi, all, I just got a rating from someone that received my ornaments. I thought I had put a lot of effort into hand crocheting not just one, but 3 snowflakes for my people. They each also got a hand crocheted angel. The angel I had stiffened to hang on the tree. The snowflakes, I did not, (as I have seen people starch them and hang as ornaments, or sew onto pillows or onto lap quilts, and wall hangings.) So I stated something to that effect in my boxes to each. (I would have saved money by putting them into envelopes ). as a new swapper, I thought this would be something non-religious that my people would like. I hope that my other 2 people like them more than my first person.

I must be terribly late leaving this comment.. I've been so very busy! I received all three of my Ornament packages, and I love them all! It's hard to choose a favorite! I have a pair of gingerbread peoples (a lady and a gent) from one swapper, a gingerbread person with a candy cane from the second, and a beautiful cross-stitched star from the third! (Sorry for no names-- I have to dig out my packages and find the notes that came with them. Later because I should be leaving the house now for an appointment!
