Description:

[Image above is a handwritten electricity ad, circa 1938. See it full size here]

I've just got a new fountain pen. It writes so much more smoothly than my old one, and it makes me want to write...well, something – I'm not sure exactly what, at the moment.

For this swap, you will send your partner a handwritten 'something' – could be a short story, a letter, a poem, a recipe, even an entire zine (go on, I dare you! ;-) ). You could even write about your favourite pen, or which inks you like to use; the choice is entirely yours! The only stipulations are:

  • that you cover at least one half-size/A5 page or equivalent (e.g. 2 sides of quarter-size/A6) with your handwriting, in any format
  • and that it is actually individually written by hand (ie not a handwriting font from your pc, and not something you have handwritten & then scanned/photocopied for multiple partners).
You can send the same thing to each partner, but you must write it out twice!

Just to clarify, this can be written with any pen you like! The swap was inspired by my latest fountain pen acquisition, but you can you whatever pen/pens/writing implement you are comfortable with.

We want to see the crossings out & the ink smudges – we want to see your character!
I seem to spend most of my life tapping away on this laptop, but writing by hand shares a visual representation of you, as well as just expressing your thoughts. Oh yes, though, one more requirement:

  • make it legible!

Handwriting might be a dying 'art' but it's kind of pointless to send a handwritten 'something' that your partner can't actually read...

2 partners = 2 handwritten somethings sent, and 2 handwritten somethings received

The obvious bit
You already had to have a rating of 4.9+ with no recent no-sends, 1s or 3s to join this group anyway, so the same stands for this swap. But I will still double-check before assigning partners, so if you have what you feel is an unfair comment or rating, just PM me & we can try to work it out. :-)

You say in the description that it's two partners, but then at the top it says 3...

As I understand it, there are 3 partners. So you're able to photocopy for up to one of them, but 2 have to be hand-written. (You could write the same thing twice & copy it once.) Do I have it right, @TangleCrafts

So sorry for the confusion - my head is very fuzzy from painkillers and antibiotics, at the moment. I have edited the swap - you will have 2 partners and send each a separate handwritten something. No photocopies, please! :)

Ok to add some doodles as long as it is mostly handwriting?

TangleCrafts 06/25/2010 #

So long it is mostly handwriting, a little doodled embellishment is fine. :)

I am left handed, so mine would have lots of those quaint ink smudges

TangleCrafts 07/25/2010 #

I imagine mine will have one or two of those quaint crossings out. ;)

I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and use my best fountain pen if I can find it after our big move. :D

Thanks for the reminder on this one. I've just been gifted a chinese brush painting set - I know awesome! So I'm planning on breaking it out to try some funky writing.

Argh... no chinese brush painting.. there's a puter on my craft table...
