Description:

Set your inner hippie free and handknit/ crochet or sew a mini amulet pouch and fill with 3 tiny items for a partner. Please check your partner's profile for color/ yarn choices and ideas of what to fill the pouch with: Maybe a small turquoise or hematite stone, incense cone, small candy, picture, sticker, acorn, etc.--small and inexpensive (hopefully under $3-5) since these pouches are quick to knit and lightweight, I'm making this swap international.

See basic pattern below:

Using size 2 needles, cast on 30 stitches. Join in the round and purl first 2-3 rows. interchanging colors, knit about 17 rows of your pouch. Finish off by purling two rounds and casting off the last round in purl. Whipstitch the bottom to close and weave in the ends where you changed colors. Cut 3 long strands of yarn (30 to 40 inches) and braid or knit an I-cord for the neckstrap. knot the strap at the sides of the pouch to secure. you may also add beads or other items to your pouch.

Newbies are very welcome but I will ban any swappers with a no-send in their ratings.

May I ask if it is taboo to crochet one of these? (I can't knit). If so thats fine. If it is ok to crochet one what size are they? Thanks heaps :)

todsahonchik 08/20/2007 #

I don't see why not, symphonie. The pouches are about 2 to 3 inches by the same. Pretty small to be unobtrusive around your neck.

Hi Tod, Any chance it can be made out of cloth...? I don't knit or crochet but this is definetly my kind of swap!

I love medicine bags/Amulet pouches. =] I make and sell tons at a local craft fair. =] So, I'm totally in!

Sorry, may I ask a silly question?

What is Amulet Pouch? What is it for? Do I wear it on my neck or shoulder?

todsahonchik 08/27/2007 #

around the neck. If you google "amulet pouch" there will probably be lots of info on them in Wikipedia, etc.

Partners are ready to go... I did have to ban two swappers, which always makes me feel sad, but I stated in the swap description that I would ban anyone with a no-send in their ratings.

Remember to check your partners profile for likes/dislikes/ yarn allergies and feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions... have fun!!

Shazam! Checked my partners preferences, whipped it up and sent it on its way with love & hugs!

Pam, I know it says my bag was sent, but it hasn't been. After I got the cutest package from Molly, I decided to take the time to redo your bag. I fully intend to beat the deadline, just don't expect it immediately. :)

Hi Karen

Your package is on its way.
