Description:

Hello everyone! This is my first swap, so please no biting. You can bite me next time, but for this one I'd like to just focus on one thing at a time. :)

In this swap, you are to create a diorama (a small scene) inside a matchbox. It will be a 250 count matchbox, the big one. The scene will be sender's choice, and it is very open. Any sort of dark place or scene you would like. A few examples are a padded cell in a nuthouse, inside a vampire's coffin, or a crime scene. These are just a few things I can think of, so I trust you to come up with something spectacular! You can make your scene out of anything you would like – polymer clay, pre-made miniatures, paper etc, or a combination of everything. Here are a few pictures of dioramas to inspire you – I know they're not dark, but they will give you an idea of what I mean.
Ones made with miniatures
Ones made entirely with paper – cheapest to ship I would assume
One with miniature and paper

Please also decorate the outside of the matchbox. It doesn't have to match the inside, but please also make it dark.

This swap is open to all in the group, beginners included as I am a beginner in this too! I just want you to make something amazing for your partner, something you are proud to send out. Please also add a small note explaining what your scene is and why you chose it. I am putting my faith in all of you in the group, but I will check profiles just to make sure everything looks good.

Package your matchbox carefully for travel – perhaps make a small box to go around it so it makes it to your partner safely.

So to recap – please make a dark-themed matchbox diorama for your partner, in a 250 count matchbox, outside decorated as well. Here is a link to a template for a big matchbox if you would like to make your own. Please let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

Great idea! Watching for now - wouldn't be able to start on it 'til Nov, so I'll see how the next few weeks play out....

i've been asking around, but can someone please tell me what a matchbox swap is? is there a link i can go to so that i can see how and what a matchbox is?

A matchbox swap can be of two different kinds - a filled one or a shrine/diorama. They each use a matchbox like the kind you get at a grocery store filled with matches as a main element. The filled one is a matchbox filled with tiny things usually related to a theme - look on flickr for inspiration as to what to fill them with. A shrine or diorama is a small scene created inside a matchbox, so that when you open the matchbox, you see the scene. I hope this helps you!

I have some questions, please help!
* how big is a 250 count matchbox? I don't think the big size in sweden is as big as the american. I guess that's how usa rolls ;)
* Is it ok to make the lid transparent so that it can be displayed like a shadowbox?
Grateful for answers guys!

I think there are a few sizes for 250 count matchboxes. I have a 350 count one that I just measured, which I believe it almost the same as a 250, and it was 12 cm long, 6.5 cm wide, and 3 cm high. There is a template here - link that has almost the exact same measurements for a 250 count, and a template here- link for a drawer only that is slightly different. I don't have particular dimensions, but as long as it is close to these, that is good.
In terms of a transparent lid, that would be awesome! I have been thinking about making a transparent/clear sleeve myself so that you can open the box, but also somewhat see through it when it's closed.

Transparent lid?! Guys! Now I have to redesign my box becasue there's no way I cannot incorporate that now. It's like thinking of crackers and someone says chocolate cake. You just pimped my diorama - hahahaha!
