Description:

I'm going to try to host a magic yarn ball swap for each month... I just love magic yarn balls... thank you to everyone that participated in the october swap... looking forward to a november swap!!!

I haven't seen a magic yarn ball swap for a while.... and it's been so long since I've done one... i searched to see if there were any going on right now, and there aren't... so I thought I'd start one.

for this swap, you will make ONE magic yarn ball.... try to make the theme of the ball match your partner's profile... BUT it doesn't have to!!

please don't use cheap 100% acrylic yarn... OR put cheap things IN the yarn ball... make something nice... something you'd LOOOOVE to receive!!!

you can search google or flickr for magic yarn ball pics/ideas and here's a place to upload your pics from your sent/received swap-bot magic yarn balls http://www.flickr.com/groups/1583757@N22/ thanks momwithahook!!

there are some WONDERFUL ones out there!!!

you could also include a pattern that would go with the yarn you send.... you could use just one larger skein of yarn... or two small skeins. or, imagine a beautiful hand tied skein!!!!

it's all up to you!!! this is senders choice

I've never took part in a Yarn Ball Swap but I've always wanted to..how much yarn (weight) do you usually use to make a yarn ball? Which kind of yarn would you suggest me? How much do you usually spend for the surprises? As I said I would really love to join this swap but I want to be able to make a great swap for my partner!

Ooh, this sounds like so much fun! I haven't done this before, so I'm in.

what kind of yarn are you suggesting? There isn't a good selection around here except for acrylic or cotton yarn. Let me know if the cotton will work. I love using cotton for my own stuff. I think this would be fun. Let me know about the yarn.

I had all the same questions too, that have been posted :) Putting this on watch for now

it really is senders choice... but, as always, it's much better to try to go based on the profile of your partner...

while acrylic is "ok" maybe your partner LOVES bamboo yarn.. or cotton yarn.. or wool!!

I'd say your best bet is either put in your profile what yarns you prefer and don't like or you can always post it here... but it's better to put it in your profile, not everyone checks the messages here.

if you search Magic Yarn Ball on google, and click on Images... some absolutely beautiful yarn balls come up... they are amazing!! i'd set up a flickr site for the magic yarn ball swaps, but I have no idea how!!! i'll look into it, and see what I can do.

Cinderella, could you please suggest a price range and/or number of items for the yarn ball? Thanks.

I've been out of the swapping game for a while, but this seems like so much fun!

There's too much going on for Christmas for me to take part in this one and make it wonderful, but I look forward to swapping another yarn ball in January! The last one was looks of fun, I'd encourage anyone on the fence to go ahead and give it a try, it's not about how much money you spend. I used a lot of stash items for the November swap and if you are really unsure it's never a bad idea to shoot your swap partner a message to find out what yarn they would like to use. Have fun everyone!

cinderella730 12/ 3/2010 #

thank you smallhawk!!! that's what I was thinking... it's not really about the money... it is soooooo much fun to put these together, AND receive them... some people unroll their yarn ball right away, and get all their goodies, and some people wait till they are knitting/crocheting and get the goodies as they go... either way it's a blast!!!!! and I agree with you, if you have any questions, just ask your partner!!! it's hard to put a price on this, b/c there is such a WIDE RANGE of yarn costs!!!!

i also always try to go with the rule to send something I'd LOVE to receive!!

I can't wait for this swap to start!!! only a couple more days!!!!
