Beachcombers here's your chance justify hanging out at the beach and gathering up treasures! For this swap, you'll find at least 5 pieces of beach glass for your partner. If the pieces are really small, please include more.

I figure we all deserve a stress free, special swap. Please send a package that you would be truly happy to receive. Be creative. Package it nicely, write a bit about the beach where you found the glass, include a poem, or send some other fabulous treasures you happen to come across.

More about sea glass

The fine print: Ratings of 4.9 and above only. No no-sends within the last six months. Please only join this swap if you intend to rate your partner. I hate to crack the whip, but please have a full profile and log in at least two weeks before the sign up deadline. Beachcombing is peaceful. It's a time you can reflect on the good things in your life and let the bad stuff wash out to sea. Flaking is bad karma. Don't chance it.

I'll try to get mine out before the deadline due to my crummy postal situation.

NorthernBorder 10/18/2010 #

I love this and wish I could join, but the ocean is currently out of reach for this mountain woman.

bruxbaby 10/18/2010 #

I wish I could join, but the beach is 4 hours away! I've always wanted sea glass!!

DosLittleMonkeys 10/18/2010 #

I'll keep collecting and perhaps we can swap. :)

I am unable to participate in this swap, due my geography. Might you want to swap sea glass for posole or tamales??? (Just kidding, my friend. Hugs from New Mexico)

DosLittleMonkeys 10/19/2010 #

Ohhhhh, tamales.........

ohpossum 10/19/2010 #

mmm... sea glass = tamalesssss

when I visited Scotland, I found "sea china" which was really neat.

Masterbard 10/19/2010 #

I can send Asian sea glass and don't really need / want any seaglass back in return (have a huge collection from literally around the world...) so perhaps some of the posters here will be happy to know that and try to set up a private 'sea glass for little profile treat' swap with me? And I'd also, of course, be happy to join this swap and send a beachcomber's 'Asian Sea Glass' jar to my partner!

:)

@NorthernBorder - I'm with you. I live near the mountains, not the beach.

This would be a good swap to do again in the summer though when I have a better chance of being near the beach (hint, hint). :-)

Lauriez 10/19/2010 #

i am a sea glass fanatic & also have a great collection from several locations including the Gulf of Mexico, Maui, and Puget Sound where i now live. i would be happy to do a private swap with those who are not near a beach but would like some pieces of their own. Just PM me & we can set something up!

mauiwahine 10/20/2010 #

@ohpossum I have sea china where I live. I thought it was whale teeth at first.

And I would also be interested in doing a private swap for people who want sea glass, but aren't near the ocean. I have a lot of amber colored sea glass and very nice white polished ones. Some green. So that means budweiser, corona, heineken :) I live on Maui btw

Elin 10/20/2010 #

Oh, i live close the the sea, but theres no seaglass here :( Maybe i should be lucky for that, pepole not throwing bottles everywhere.

jukejan 10/21/2010 #

I have sea china, too and plan to make a shadow box with it after going to a big sea glass show a couple of weeks back.

TaraInColorado 10/23/2010 #

What a neat thread, I never knew there were so many kinds of sea glass. When you think about it, putting a broken glass bottle into the surf is a perfect form of recycling: all glass is is sand (silica) that has been melted together. The pounding of the waves returns it to its original form... although I came across this thread because it's labelled "ephemera" (??)

jukejan 10/25/2010 #

Ephemera can be described anything that you may throw away, or something as being temporary. It's not just a paper item.

DosLittleMonkeys 10/28/2010 #

Yea, I think "ephemera" has kinda moved beyond printed materials, paper, etc. I have even seen people describe feathers and stuff as ephemera. I don't know, maybe I'm just helping to corrupt the word?! :)

breccamerie 10/28/2010 #

I hope that no one minds me joining. I have river glass which is basically the same thing but found in the rivers here where I live. I have jars full. I also collect river china. Would anyone mind receiving a piece of that as well?

DosLittleMonkeys 10/28/2010 #

I wouldn't object to receiving either river glass or china. :)

mauiwahine 10/31/2010 #

Is river glass smooth or does it still look like broken glass? I collect a lot of sea glass and always toss the sea glass that aren't smooth yet.

Me too, I found some interesting pieces this weekend that had some Japanese writing, but threw them back for more smoothing.

jukejan 11/ 4/2010 #

River glass and china works for me. I went thru the collection and have a baggie that is going back to the beach this weekend, for more polishing.

siouxx05 11/ 7/2010 #

I went to the beach the past weeekend, and found not much in the way of sea glass at all... but I did find a couple of house bricks and a few good chunks of concrete....... yes, I left them there... and The Princess found a spoon. :)
