EDIT: We both hated the book so we'll be sending each other chocolate :D

Ok, it looks like we have a contender for our first bookclub swap! The book will be the first book in the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. In the USA, it's just called "Outlander" but I believe in other languages it is not. It's called "Cross Stitch" in the UK. Either way, it's intensely popular internationally, so everyone should be able to find it in a language they are comfortable it. This book has everything: romance, historical elements, fantasy, and great critical acclaim. It IS a little long, which is why the deadline is January 20th.

Here's what we'll do:

  1. Write a Journal entry about your thoughts on the book. Some things to consider while writing the entry are: Did you like it? What were important themes to you? Did any part of the book elicit a deep emotional response? Who were your favorite characters and why?

  2. Make an artistic/crafty representation of your impression of the book. It could be a collage, a bookmark, a handmade postcard, anything.

  3. Answer two bookclub questions about the book that are to be determined. Many bookclub questions actually give away events in the book in my opinion, so I don't think we should decide on bookclub questions until January 1st. We can decide as a group what bookclub questions to answer, or I can find 2 and post them.

  4. Send your journal entry, artistic/crafty representation, and answers to your partner.
