Norse Bestiary - Fenris

Fenris (or Fenrir) is a monstrous wolf. He is one of the sons of Loki and the father of the wolves Skoll and Hati. When the gods realized how rapidly he was growing, they decided to trick him into being bound in fetters. They tried three times; on the third try, they successfulness bound him, but he bit off Tyr's hand. He remains bound until Ragnarok, when he is finally able to break free. During the Ragnarok, his jaw will stretch from the ground to the sky and he will swallow up everything in his path.
