NOTE 5/28/14 I'm slowing down my swapping quite a bit for the summer. I'm still around, though, so if you need me, PM me. Expecting to pick back up in the fall, but I'll probably be joining only a few things between now and then.
I've been carving rubber stamps and using them to create LTCs/ATCs since 2009. I'm an active trader/swap host on atlasquest.com (also as BfloAnonChick). Looking to expand my artistic horizons and trade with some new people.
No kids, 3 cats. Love cats of all sorts, but tiger kitties are the best.
Have lived in WNY (Buffalo area) all my life. Love Maine. Hate snow. Love autumn.
Love visiting lighthouses.
I enjoy hiking/camping/being outdoors. I letterbox. Tried geocaching, not a fan.
I like cemeteries, I spend a lot of time in them, I think they are cool, and enjoy taking photos of unusual headstones. I volunteer for Find A Grave.
Railfan - I grew up around trains, my dad works with them, and I think they're cool.
Huge Hello Kitty fan. I'm also a sucker for food with faces, and Sentimental Circus.
Fave colours are blue and green (all shades).
I like shiny things (pressed pennies, etc.), and recently created my first pathtag. If you trade pathtags, please PM me for a private swap. :-)
I have no allergies, but am extremely unfond of the smell of cigarette smoke. If you are sending me something from a smoking home, please do whatever you can to avoid sending the smell with it. (Okay, I DO have a couple of allergies, but they're to medication, and if someone is sending me random antibiotics, we've got bigger problems than my breaking out in hives, lol...)
Speaking of hives, terrified of bees. Yep. I have trouble getting close enough to kill them, and finding them in my apartment/car is pretty much the only thing likely to give me a panic attack.
Bacon is pretty much the best thing in life. :-)
My fave webcomic is Girls with Slingshots. I also read PhD and Unshelved.
Favourite ballet is "Le Jeune Homme et la Mort." I'll be jazzed if you've heard of it, but I won't hold my breath. ;-)
I have a fairly dark, warped sense of humour. I'm lucky enough to work in an office with colleagues who do as well. It makes the workdays fly by.
I have a Master's degree in Library Science, but am currently working as an Administrator in the non-profit sector. While it wasn't where I thought I'd be a few years ago, I love my job!!! It's fun, I work with interesting and creative people who push me to be creative, and I have awesome pay/benefits! After several years in retail (buy me some drinks some time and ask me about 9 years with Target), I feel like I've hit the jackpot.
There are few things I find quite as off-putting as snobbery.
Pretty much anything except country, and hardcore rap. Favourite band of all time is Barenaked Ladies; have seen them in concert more times than I can count anymore. Was also a huge fan of Moxy Fruvous before they broke up. But I also have a deep appreciation for classical music, and a shameful love of pop music. (I have no use for Justin Bieber, however.) I like lots of other stuff, ranging from hard rock, to alternative, 80s, disco, and more.
Not music, but my most frequently tuned radio station is the local NPR News station. :-)
Moulin Rouge!, V for Vendetta, White Nights, Hunt for Red October, Bend It Like Beckham are the all-time faves, but I watch all kinds of stuff. Not crazy about shoot 'em up-style action films unless there's a spy element, and then I'm all about them. Like musicals. Hate westerns.
I like procedurals: I'll give pretty much any cop/lawyer/doctor show a shot. Mostly I stick with dramas, but the one comedy I like is Big Bang Theory. Other faves (old and current) are: Grey's Anatomy, Suits, Scandal, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Nikita, Revenge, The Paradise, Mr. Selfridge, The IT Crowd, House of Lies, Shameless, Mad Men, True Blood, The Good Wife, Downton Abbey, Switched at Birth, Bunheads, Covert Affairs, NCIS, Hart of Dixie, Haven, Eureka, Bones, Law & Order, X Files, Sailor Moon, Batman, and a bunch more not coming to mind right now.
Um, yeah, I like TV. :-)
Heh. I read all kinds of stuff, from all sorts of genres. In no particular order: Mystery/thriller/crime, sci-fi/fantasy, dystopian future, popular fiction, some "chick lit", classics, sociology, theology, information management, history, some of the better YA stuff. Love Harry Potter. HATE Twilight. Vampires do NOT sparkle!
I read a lot of non-fiction on ranging topics, but areas of particular interest include life in North Korea, Chernobyl and accounts of life in the Zone, the KGB (and to a lesser extent, the FBI and CIA), the Cold War, the history of the Coca-Cola Corp., and WWII. (At some point in my life, I want to travel both to North Korea, and to the Zone of Exclusion in Ukraine/Belarus. It's an uncomfortable topic for my mother.)
I'm a sucker for mystery stories where the protagonist is a priest/rabbi, especially the Father Koesler books and the Claire Fergusson books.
On occasion, I will read romance books, but I'm extremely picky about which ones; most of them are pretty unappealing.
I carve rubber stamps, create LTCs/ATCs. Starting to experiment with journaling, and even a little jewelry making. Mostly, I just like to get inky. I am interested in playing with polymer clay next, though. :-)
I'm a Creative Chemistry 101 grad, and I love all things Tim Holtz (and in his style). But I like lots of other stuff too, and my work runs the gamut from cutesy kawaiish, to stark and simple, to vintage, steam punk, and whimsical.
When it comes to ATCs I receive, please don't limit yourself/your style based on what you think I'll like. Part of why I'm here is to get new ideas, and hopefully learn some new techniques, and I figure the best way to do that is to be open to everything. As long as you put work into it, I want to see it.
I have my blog linked above if you want to see more of what I do. :-) I only recently began blogging, but I'm participating in the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2013 challenge, and I'm periodically posting other projects as well. If my mention of LTCs above made you cock your head and go "huh?", I have a post that explains those too.
I don't knit/crochet. I've tried, it was a dismal failure. And I have no drawing skill (unless you're into weirdly proportioned stick people). So it's unlikely you'll see me in related swaps.
I don't scrapbook, but due to my stamping/card making, someone walking into my studio and looking at my supplies might think I do. :-)
When I make an ATC, I will usually make a few extras to trade. So please be aware that cards you receive from me are rarely "one-of-a-kind". This is reflected in the edition numbering on the back.
While extras are always appreciated, they are not the basis of my rating, nor are they why I do/don't give hearts. I give hearts based on effort. If it's obvious to me that you worked hard on what you sent me, that you put YOUR heart into it, you get a heart from me. Simple as that. :-)
I rate as soon as I receive, and I request the same courtesy. :-)
I do not click "sent" until the item has physically left my possession and been deposited with the Post Office. I always have a stash of stamps at home, along with a postal scale, so I frequently utilize the drop boxes at the Post Office, particularly on the weekends.
I do keep ATCs I receive in sleeves and binder pages, so I really appreciate cards that will fit!
I've recently begun swapping rolos, and currently have a small tray-style holder. I prefer the smaller size (4x2.25") rolo cards.
I realize that the spelling of my name is mildly unusual, but I REALLY appreciate it when it's spelled correctly on my mail!!!
I want a blue kitten. And a TARDIS. nodding
